A long read but a real eye opener about the speakers and the Japanese audiophile scene. www.audioreview.com/Main,Speakers/Tannoy,Westminster,Royal/prd_120684_1594crx.aspx (

You're welcome.Maybe thats why I don't see too many older Tannoy speakers locally.

Here's a link with a photo of said speakers. Yeah, I got Thirty GRAND in my pocket. :) I'd sure love to hear these beauties.

The article says that the Westminster driver "alone" costs around Nine Grand.
Aren't these basically the same as the Churchills? Is it the same driver as the Westminster too?

C'mon, it's always the same basic Tannoy DC. The darling of studios all over the world....

I guess someone who's crafty could dress up those studio models and make them look pretty. :)

Well, yeah.
My point being, I've heard them all and the studio versions sound damn close to the 30 grand version. So, if someone wants to experience the sound of Tannoy and doesn't want to buy used, the studio version is the way to go. There is also a double 15" studio version for even more bass drive....
Why spend 4 grand on some Audiophile mini-monitor when you could have these babies?

Exactly!
Steve, I've been meaning to ask you......have you heard the 12" version of these? I was just curious how they are on behalf of those with space or budget limitations.

I used to have them in my office:

Second picture down I think.
Bass only went down to 50 or something like that. They sucked compared to the 15" version. I think it would be fine with a sub, but I can't stand subs so....
