View Full Version : G L O R I A
I've been trying to remember who sang this song. I'd sing a few bars but that wouldn't help much since the only part I remember is the G L O R I A GLOOORRRRIIIIAA

Van Morrison's vocal on "Gloria" was amazing when it came out - sure made me a fan of his!

The Doors and Jimi Hendrix also released versions of "Gloria", obviously straying from the versions by Them and The Shadows Of Night, whose versions were pretty similar.

All,
Gloria by Them was a big hit in the UK and on a regional basis in the US (west coast as I recall). Gloria by Shadows of Knight was huge in the Midwest (they were from Chicago) and a pretty big hit nationally. I like both versions and to my ears each is distinctive. The Them version has survived more on radio because of Van Morrison.

A different song all together, but one that I enjoyed.

Also a different song of the same title by U2, of course.
As far as versions of Gloria, I like Van's live versions on It's Too Late To Stop Now and on A Night in San Francisco. The one on San Francisco, interpolated with Shakin' All Over, is the be-all end-all of Gloria's in my mind.
