Anyone ever heard of these - or heard them? :)

Spotted a pair at a respectable store. Mint condition. They are used but the owner is asking $3,200.00 CAD.

I believe they are pretty "modern".

Any comments would be appreciated!

Nicely made speakers but they don't have the "sound" of the Tannoy 15!

Steve, how much would Tannoy 15s run?

New ones in the Prestige series or a vintage pair?

Which sound better? that would be the deciding factor.

Uh, well one is about $1,500 and the other is about $10,000. To me THAT would be the deciding factor.

LOL.....Touche!!! So Igather the Prestige series are the 1,500$ ones. To you, how do they sound?

I use a pair of Tannoy PBM 5 II's as my monitor speakers and I love 'em. Very neutral.

Mikey, the Prestige Widebands are well over 10 grand. The old ones are cheap. They only go up to around 12-14k and the new ones have a super tweeter....

Best to find an old pair on eBay. Just type in Tannoy...

Many thanks, Steve!! i thought the Vintage ones would be the real expensive ones, like the ones Joe Meek had.

Just get a pair of Tannoy DMT 15's like the big studios use. Around 2 grand or so. All that is missing is the wood...

Here is a pair on eBay:

Just an example. FOrget these. This pair has been reconed. In other words they blew them out. Pretty hard to do!

Thats too bad, because this auction was right here in NYC, I could have picked them up in a cab. Steve, what does reconing do to the sound?

Steve Hoffman

Probably nothing, but why would a 10 year old speaker need to be reconed? ABUSE! Forget it.

They puppies are all over the place, be patient. Who knows? A pair from the 1960's could come on on eBay or something.

Be forewarned, old Tannoys don't have much top top end...

Thanks, so I've been told. But I also hear that folks replace the tweeters to get around that. With WHAT, I dont know.

Steve Hoffman

There is no tweeter to replace! It's a dual concentric design!

Ah!! Gotcha!!

An expert on speakers I am not.

But I can tell you that the band on Gilligans Island posing as "The Mosquitos" were in fact The Wellingtons, who sang the Theme song.....:)

Thanks for the help, Steve.

Thank you.

And vintage will probably be cheaper, too.... :)
