Neu

I've been listening to a couple of things by Neu, a German outfit with similarities to Kraftwerk or Tangerine Dream but somewhat harder edged and a bit more idiosyncratic.

Anyone familiar with the group?

Never heard of them :( . But I like Tangerine Dream so I may give 'em a shot.

Can you recommend a CD of theirs?

Try "Neu '75" their third album which has recently been re-released on Astralwerks. I feel this is their most consistent overall.

Excellent band from the golden age of Krautrock. I have all their releases. Beware of their 90's return albums. It is only one of the original guys and its nowhere near the level of their first 3 albums "Die with Dignity" is incredibly bad.
Neu! and Neu 2 are IMO their best works. By the time of Neu! 75 they had started to lose their edge. There is also a live album called Live 72, the sound is very rough but since they didn't play many live shows its a good document of their interactive prowlness. If you like Neu! you should check out Faust.
