View Full Version : Any Buddy Rich fans?
I finally got around to listening to Neil Peart's tribute to Buddy Rich (Burning for Buddy) cd. I'm alway interested in who some of my favorite rock stars were influenced by. Not only are the performances great but the sound is also above what I expected. I would recommend this cd to folks who like an intense big band sound with a lot of drums and bass as the foundation.
Now I was thinking about purchasing some original Buddy Rich cds but was amazed at how little seems to be out there. I was expecting a box set or something that really showcased his legendary career and saw nothing. Anyone have any recommendations?

Hey KLM...
I am a HUGE Buddy Rich fan. Since I am also a drummer, i grew up watching Buddy (went to see him play live 3 times) on Tv and was always a big fan.
If you go to a Tower records, you will see a ton of CDs by Buddy at various stages of his career. There a lot of stuff avaialble, the problem is that Buddy was always leaving one label to sign with another so, all these Cds and things are on different labels, therefore there is no continuity or organization.
Far more revealing for Me, was the set of VHS tapes i bought on the underground market, featuring Buddy on TV. Boy, those are just a pleasure to watch........Buddy was a Drum GENIUS, and even while you are watching him do it it is hard to believe that a Human can play so fast. And his barbs with Johnny Carson are pretty funny, too.
Have you found the sound clips of "Buddy on The bus" on the net? Pretty hilarious!!

Very much enjoyed...Buddy Rich "The Greatest Drummer That Ever Lived" DJZ-606 DCC Jazz CD..Sammy Davis, Jr. Buddy Rich "The Sounds Of '66...DJZ-625 DCC Jazz CD...Great Job Steve!
Thanks for the responses. I don't live near a Tower but will try and find some of the DCC releases mentioned. Anybody else have any recommendations. I did see an interesting title called Buddy versus Roach in which Buddy Rich and his band play on one channel and Max Roach and his band play on the other. Anyone know anything about this one or any other titles.
I also see their was a MFSL cd Mel Torme/Buddy Rich "Together Again - For the First Time". Anyone Bueller...Bueller...Bueller....
