In one week it will be 40 years since the John Kennedy assassination. TV this week will be full of specials on JFK and the assassination.

Here's a list:

Profiles in coverage: TV's week of JFK

"President Kennedy Has Been Shot" Sunday, 8 p.m., CNN. Journalists reflect on how they covered the assassination.

"A Presidency Revealed" Sunday, 8 p.m., History Channel. A three-hour documentary that analyzes Kennedy's thousand days in office with new interviews of many participants.

"JFK: Case Not Closed" Sunday, 9 p.m., Fox News Channel. This investigation, with Greta Van Susteren, is not for the squeamish — it shows gruesome autopsy photos of Kennedy.

"JFK: The Day That Changed America" Monday,9 p.m., MSNBC. Chris Matthews interviews figures from business, entertainment, sports and politics about where they were when they heard the news.

"The JFK Assassination: Investigation Reopened" Wednesday, 9 p.m., Court TV. The network's popular "Forensic Files" series uses state-of-the-art crime-solving techniques to support the single-bullet theory.

"JFK: Breaking the News" Wednesday, 10 p.m., Ch. 13. Using little-seen footage from Dallas TV stations, Jane Pauley narrates this look at how coverage of the assassination changed the way Americans got their news.

"Peter Jennings Reporting: The Kennedy Assassination — Beyond Conspiracy" Nov. 20, 9 p.m., Ch. 7. ABC News promises an exhaustive examination of the assassination and the many conspiracy theories.

"The Kennedy Tapes Revealed" Nov. 21, 8 p.m., Bravo. For the first time, viewers will hear audiotapes of Robert F. Kennedy reflecting on his brother's administration made in the years after the assassination.

"Unrivaled Access: The JFK Films by Robert Drew" Nov. 22, 8:30 a.m., History Channel. Four classic documentaries from Drew, a pioneer in cinéma vérité, that include behind-the-scenes looks at the Kennedy White House and "Faces of November," which captured reactions to JFK's funeral.

There's also a spate of books that have been recently published to coincide with the 40th anniversary. Two I'm reading are "The Great Zapruder Film Hoax" (edited by James H. Fetzer, Catfeet Press) and "Blood, Money & Power: How LBJ Killed JFK" (by Barr McClellan, Hannover House).

Folks, Steve is understating! He remastered hours and hours of first-generation 1964 tapes of the original Dallas Police Department radio broadcasts. For preservation and other purposes, the tapes are almost certainly the best copies of the now worn-out originals in existence. Steve's work was funded by the Fox News Channel for The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in Dallas. Who knows what secrets the recordings may yet reveal?

That's great, Gary! Thanks to Fox News too!

(That'd be '63, not '64!)

Is there any of that nasty tape hiss on Steve's "remastering?":D

Seriously, though, it must be very cool to be involved with working on something like those tapes.

Even though the Fox producer intimated that most of my segment was left on the cutting room floor, it was still a thrill to be involved with such historical documents. I loved every minute of this. Thanks to Gary Mack of The Sixth Floor Museum At Dealey Plaza for suggesting me to Fox.

Quite a bit of Gary! Not so much of Steve :(. I did see him at the board at Acoustech though for a few seconds around when something about digital preservation of these radio broadcast tapes was mentioned by Greta or someone, but that was it. Oh well...

Glad you had a chance to work on these historic tapes Steve.

No, not much of Steve, but at least he made an appearance...and Gary too! Great job, guys!:)

Interesting that, so far, cable is treating the assassination as conspiracy, on the main, while you can bet the networks, as usual, will go with the lone gunman theory.

Whatever the true facts are, one thing's for certain: every year about this time, the story will be back. No end in sight there....

Hey Steve, all they gave you was a "behind the head" mixing-console shot?

Can we consider you one of the "audio experts" mentioned?
