Okay, I hooked up my new MC 202 and I'm very, very happy with it. As I've posted before this new addition to my system has opened things up considerably. There are massive improvements in terms of bass, depth, width, clarity, etc. I feel that my tube preamp w/Telefunkens is still giving me a nice breath of life (especially in the mid-range). I'm glad I made this choice to try something radically different with my system. As I've said before, I loved my Dynaco ST-70 but I had reached a point where I wanted to some nice change and hopefully (which I believe is true) for the better. Music seems to come from my speakers with a lot less effort now.

I'm also still very impressed with the MC 220's build quality. It is indeed built (and almost weighs) like a tank yet maintains a beautiful design. Again, I'm happy for taking the plunge into something new. :)

Very very cool Todd.

Sounds like it was money well spent. Now how many other tube-lovers can we get on this Mac SS bandwagon......I wonder....... ;)

For me I guess I'm very lucky that I've been doing some side work which enabled me the rarity of being able to get this amp without selling tons of stuff (equipment, collectable CD's etc.) to do an upgrade (which is usaully the norm with tons of headaches). I think I earned it because I've clocked in tons of hours every week for the last several months with very little free time. I usually take foreer to make a decision on getting a new piece of equipment but luckily I had the opportunity to go with my instincts because of my friend's purchase, my own ears with my system and fortunately doing some additional work. I would never have been able to even think of doing something on a whim like this when I was married. In a positive sense this is at least a new form of freedom to make decisions in this new life I'm carving for myself. I would have been given horrible guilt trips if I ever mentioned the thought of spending some hard earned money on something like this. As silly as it sounds, I can see that I'm moving forward in a good direction. If I won the lottery then I would consider getting that awesome VAC amp Steve was using. :)

Good story, Todd. It makes all the extra work/effort worthwhile when you're able to reward yourself with something you'll enjoy every day.

I was smart (?) enough to make all my major A/V investments before the GF and I take it to the next level.

Go crank it up!!

Are you keeping both systems, Todd?

Just curious....

Gary, I'm going to sell the Dynaco. I live in an apartment and my main/only system is in the living room. I love and loved the ST-70 but it would only be collecting dust. I'll put it on Ebay in the near future. Cosmetically it has flaws but it's an early model (pre-zip code) with the cloth wires, handmade transformer (A-something/model # escapes me at work), upgraded SDS power supply board, and I 2 sets of tubes (including Mullards which have a good bit of life left on them). It makes little sense for me to keep it and I'm sure it'll find a good home for someone who wants one.
