What's better the Sony xa 2es or the Sony 222 es? I am still looking for cdp

ultimately for redbook playback. I believe the 222 can be modded though

the 2es is great for female vocals. Anyone familiar with any of these

models?

thanks!!!

Sorry, I'm not familiar with these 2 Sony's, but isn't the 222 an SACD player?

Yes you are right Dave the 222 is indeed a sacd player.

I was wondering how it compared to the xa-2es for redbook playback.

Thanks for replying!!!

I have a Sony X222ES, and it is a CD player. I think I bought it in the early 90s, it is the best CD player I ever had quality wise. Outstanding error correction and usability. I have not found one flaw with this product.

The SACD 222es is an excellent player for redbook. In my opinion, it is a better sounding player on redbook than the 555es. I had the 222es and sold it for the 555. The 555's tray is much nicer will less clunking. Good luck.

I can speak for the XA20-ES as I use one. Great redbook, the definition, imaging, and staging is quite impressive IMHO.

You're most welcome. Another thing that I forgot to mention is the transport on this model is to die for. Seriously, no kidding. There is no clamping mechanism to apply any pressure to your CD's just a calibrated weight that sits on top of your CD to stabilize it. As well, the laser mechanism is built right into the transports drawer. Personally I wouldn't pay more than $200.00 US. right now as you can find them quite inexpensively.

Sounds fantastic!!!!

I will have to keep my eyes peeled for one on German Ebay understandably with older models one would be worried about laser problems( depending on the usage of course),

Again many thanks for your time /information.
