Last week, my wife and I watched 1981 Simon and Garfunkle concert that was held in Central Park. Afterwards we played some songs from the “Old Friends” CD box set. After a couple of songs my ears were bleeding. What’sssssssss with the ssssssssssiblancccccccccce in the voicccccccccessssss?
Does anybody know of any CD’s that sound better than the Old Friends box set? I tried playing my S&G LP’s from the ‘60s, but they are pretty scratched.

Well the MoFi 'Bookends' is really good. Great, actually. I don't know what it's going for these days though, I was fortunate to get mine while it was still in print and MoFi was still around. Also the Sony/Legacy Mastersound of 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters' is a good choice. Much better than the original CBS CD release, but it does suffer in places from what a lot of the Mastersound CDs suffer from, extremely boosted and tinny high end; I'm thinking especially of the horns at the end of 'Keeping the Customer Satisfied'. Woe! But, for the most part, it is a good sounding CD, one of the best in the Mastersound series, IMHO.
