Just got my DVD of the old "Hullaballo" series on NBC.
Great stuff, but there is one problem. On Disc Vol 9-12, no matter what i do, I cant turn off the Subtitles. Even when i set it to 'off' they are back!!
Does anyone else here on SH have this disc to check and see if they have the same problem?
thanks,
Mikey

Mikey,
I ordered this DVD from Amazon last week. When I play it this week I will see if it has the subtitle problem. I will let you know what I find.

Great John, please do.
I got a response form Andy who said that if you eject the disk then load it agin, you CAN turn the subtitles off.
I'm going to try tonite and see if that works. That would be fine if it does work.

Mikey,
I played the disc you mentiioned. To turn off the subtitles all I needed to do was to press the subtitle button on my DVD's remote. I picked "off" and the subtitles went away.
It is interesting how the music tracks were pre-recorded, but the vocals were live. The Righteous Brothers did a great "Soul and Inspiration". The Byrds were good, the Supremes were good and Simon and Garfunkle were good.
Overall the disc sucked!!! Why did the Rascals do "Slowdown"? That stunk! How about the girl sitting on the horse during "kicks" by Paul Revere!!! Or better yet, how about the girls that stuck their head out of the wall like deer trophies during "It's my Life" by The Animals. What was that all about? Plus---the table of contents did match the actual playing order on the disc. Damn dumb disc.

Geez, John. I cant agree with you that averall the DVD sucked.
The whole thing with Hullaballo was that it featured name artists singing the hits of the day, theirs or not.
I've always liked that concept.
Overall, its a nice trip back in time to the 60s, so I'm happy that they even RELEASED these on DVD. It wasnt to long ago that they would never have been released commecrialy because the source was kinescopes.
I hope these sell, so that MPI will release "Shindig " next!!

Mikey,
I'm sorry, I guess that I should have expressed myself in a better way. I have all three Shindig DVD's. The first two discs were very good because they had a lot of very good performances. Unfortunatly, the third disc does not have that many good performances. I do enjoy the entire series, it's just that the last disc, IMHO, is not very good (sucked).
I also have the Shindig shows on VHS tape. Very interesting stuff. I also have the Ed Sullivan series of Rock and Roll shows. These are quite interesting because some performances have the voice and music 'lip synced', others have the vocals sung live to prerecorded music, and others are 100% live.
I also have a partial series of the DVD of "The Golden Age of Rock and Roll". I tried to buy it but it was recalled because of copyright issues. However, I rented a portion of the series from Netscape and recorded them on S-VHS. Have you seen the series? If so, do you know what TV show that series was made from? It was not Shindig, Hullabaloo, or Where the Action Is.
