Can anyone recommend a really great sounding one?

Or should I just get a new player?

Do they make one that has HDCD & SACD?

Thanks in advance:)

One of the best transports... in the same league as Accuphase, Mark Levinson... anyway much (!) better as the cheap looking Sony stuff!

PS: Vancouver is a beautiful city!!!

I agree that it depends on how much you want to spend. I have a MSB LinkIII DAC w/ upsampling board and a Monarchy Audio 24/96 DIP jitter filter. I use my DVD player as a transport. Both of these products are affordable and both have made a “noticeable” improvement in sound quality. They are both available with a money back guarantee.

Wow Claus that sure looks nice but I think I'll pass on a $8,000.00 CDN. transport and an $8,200 CDN. dac (Mark Levinson) as I could buy a brand new car for that kinda bucks!

Johnny,
I have seen the MSB full nelson upgrade but I was just curious as to whether there was anything else in that sort of price range that can give me everything that I want in an upgrade?.?

Did you see my thread in Audio Hardware called Sony SACD Players and normal CDs?

I know someone who traded in his DAC....... to play CDs on a SACD player. This *may* be an option for you - and me! Plus we get to play SACDs. :)

He claims SACDs blow away any other format he's ever heard. Period.

DVD fans: Please note that this guy does NOT have a DVD-A player, so don't get upset, OK? ;)

Dave,

I guess if you want to do SCAD, you will need to get a SCAD player. An add-on DAC won't get you SCAD. I'm waiting until the SCAD vs. DVD-A fiasco is finalized.

My wife and I went on vacation in Vancouver B.C. a couple of years age. What a great place? I was very impressed, very cosmopolitan. More so than Chicago.

Nope, I have never sold anything on ebay.

By the way, your Stanley Park is one of the most beautiful parks I have ever visited. What a great place to spend the day.

Chicago has an area along Lake Michigan called "The Gold Coast" that has really expensive places to live. You know the "golden rule":----"Those with the gold, rule".

Gary,

Probably not. But can you beat a 2,000 sq. ft. house for 3.2 million?

JohnnyK,

Holy coincidence Batman! There's a seller on ebay withh exactly the same handle as you!

Stanley Park is very beautiful indeed. Did you ever make it to Golden Ears Provincal Park? It makes Stanley Park look like a small community park!

Dave,

I never got to Golden Ears. Maybe next time. I just looked it up on the Internet and it sounds great. What's the story behind The Empress Hotel on Victoria? The entire hotel is full of old, really old, people. I was 50 at the time and I was one of the youngest people at the place.

Have you ever been to Mt. Rainer in Washington? It's a great place to go hiking in the summer.

John

Nope! Our 3.2M houses are a bit bigger. But I'll bet your 3.2M house has a beautiful view of the ocean!

Isn't the Empress one of the last outposts of the Britsh Empire? With High Tea in the afternoon? Etc?

So to get back to the thread topic, if you can afford a 3.2M house, you can afford as many DAC's as you want. One for every stereo in every room in the house.

And if you can't afford a 3.2M house, and want to buy a car, what does anyone recommend for a decent DAC on an 'economy' budget? Personally I'm leaning towards a Sony ES SACD player right now. Again, see my thread in Audio Hardware called Sony SACD Players and normal CDs. I may not need a DAC!

But I want to see what the competition comes out with before I get a SACD player. No rush for me as Steve has not released any high res CDs of any type at all! Yet!

JohnnyK,

Ahhhh the Empress Hotel. Long shoreman types hang out there and alot of old timers (railway workers, miners, steel workers) from waaaaaaaay back when things used to be pretty good here.

It's located in a somewhat Italian district of Vancouver.

Now if your talking about the Empress Hotel in, not on, Victoria it's a completely different ball game.

The really wealthy people hang out there, as you could probably tell from the price of a beer, old English culture types, sort of like Garys comment, tea totaliers.

Nope I haven't been to Mt. Rainier as I haven't been to the US. since 1990, saw the Grand Canyion WOW!, as I don't really have any desire to visit the US., with the exception of maybe visiting Graceland.

Gary,

If I could afford that house do you think I'd even care how much a dac/ transport would cost?

Chicken feed.

;)
