I bought my Pioneer 563a about a month ago. So far, I've been very happy with both the sacd and dvd-a playback, and the movies look great, too. But I've had an odd experience with this unit a couple of times since I bought it:
Yesterday I was watching GHOST SHIP on dvd (yeah, yeah. It was a rental and it's October), and I got to the part near the beginning where the cable starts to tighten. Just as folks started getting mutilated, the sound went out. "Wow!" I thought. "Interesting effect. Sort of reminds me of horror films from the silent era." Then I realized that the sound was out for good.
I popped in a couple of other dvds -- still no sound.
This loss of sound had happened once before, about two weeks ago. That time, however, it was just the digital signal that wasn't getting through. I remidied it by going into the "initial set-up" menu and telling the player that all my speakers and digital hookups were there. So, I repeated that ritual yesterday, and the sound returned. Tried it again later last night, then again this morning -- still okay.
So, has anyone else experienced this sort of problem with the 563a? Anyone have any ideas as to why this all happened?
