View Full Version : My first DCC Gold CD
Hello from the UK,
So this is it...I have just taken delivery of my first DCC Gold CD. I already own a couple of Steve's CD's, but not DCC..until now.
OK, so I know I'm a bit late!
It is Bob Dylan's "Highway 61" remastered by Steve and it is still shrink wrapped.
I almost don't want to spoil this moment and keep it sealed. But then again...I gotta hear it!
So come on people - what should I do (I know the answer already!) and what was your first DCC moment.
Best wishes to one and all!

What you should do is open and listen to it and try not to think of me not having a copy of it on DCC sigh.

I think when someone gave me a copy of Aqualung, the difference between it and anything else I had heard on CD was amazing.
OOh, that made me a Senior Member. Better grab a beer and celebrate. Well maybe I should wait until I leave work.

If you dig Dylan, you owe it to yourself to open that puppy up and spin it!
Oddly enough, Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited was my first encounter with DCC as well. Great way to shake hands, I say. After my second encounter (The Doors' debut, which I must say I never really liked very much UNTIL I bought the DCC disc), DCC and I were friends for life.
Enjoy, you lucky dog you!
Shalom, y'all!

I will....The Doors is also on my list to get...
Thinking about it, maybe Steve Hoffman.tv could do a members all time best recordings poll?
Not original I know, but always a blast! How about it Holy Zoo? Could be an annual poll of all things great?
Cheers to all

My first was The Cars Greatest Hits and I have hooked ever since.
I placed the order on Feb 16 2002, now I have 38 CD's and 7 LP's.

Fuller's or Red Hook?
Couldn't be Red Hook, cause American beers all suck.

Ooh, gotta take issue with that! ;) True is was imports (Bass, then I graduated to Belgian Ales!) that initially opened my eyes to what beer could actually taste like but the American Microbrew movement of the past 10-20 years is actually one of the most interesting, and tastiest, in the history of beer.
Take a drive through Colorado, California, Washington, Wisconsin, Oregon, (almost any state) and stop at some of the small little towns that have a place that brews their own beer. A LOT of fun and there are some real winners out there!

Oh, by the way. My fisrt "DCC experience" was also with Highway 61. I opened it late one night and intedned to put it on for just a few minutes because I've heard that album about 300,000 times in my life. 50 minutes later I went to hit play again. No kidding. It was the first time I've listened (intently) to that album in 10 years.
Initially I was not blown away by DCC, in fact I assumed it was some cheapo label when I was in college. I had the silver Ray Charles CDs (Pepsi logo did nothing for the image!) and got the early Beach Boys disc at a drug store for $3.99. Because of this, I passed numerous chances to pick up DCC gold discs for cheap.

jligon,
Patrick was being "ironic". Last month our buddy Claus from Germany said that all American beer is *****, or words to that effect. Sigh. The German Tom Port.
Anyway, Patrick was just being his clever self...

Jligon --> my post was pure sarcasm. Thus the
Search the archives on my user ID and the word "beer" and you'll see what I'm talking about.
But bear in mind that I am uninformed and incapable of grasping simple concepts. Again, search the archives. ;)

Before I derail this thread any further, my first DCC was either Pet Sounds or McCartney.

My first DCC moment was also "Highway 61". My wife HATES Dylan (vocal thing) and even she said that she could finally hear what everyone else did.
I had my last really good beer last weekend. It was called Niagra Ale, purchased from the tap at the Niagra Casino on the Canadian side of Niagra Falls. Never heard of it - gave it a shot. Went back for 2 more - and it was the best "deal" I got all night.

Togo - Congratulations! Highway 61 is a great place to start your DCC collection. By all means crack that sucker open and listen. To me having discs you don't listen to is like having a Ferrari you don't drive. Unless you only bought it to sell why spend the money?

Well anyway I'm sure that both Claus and Patrick would admit that neither German nor American beer can hold a candle to Czech beer. Btw my grandpa drowned in a vat of whiskey ( Czechs also make the best whiskey). Several people seen him fall and jumped in to help but he fought them off valiantly. Took him 3 days to die.

"Highway 61 Revisited" was my first DCC Gold too. What is it with this release that made it first for so many?
My first Hoffman was Buddy Holly "For the First Time Anywhere" on LP. My first regular Hoffman CD was Buddy Holly "From the Original Master Tapes."

My first Hoffman was probably the original MCA issue of Who's Next, though I didn't realize it until much later. My first Who CD, and it sure spoiled me for all the subsequent ones! It somehow got sold in some move or breakup or something by mistake, but a Canadian copy now sits proudly on the shelf.
My first DCC Gold was Highway 61. I only have six gold DCCs all together, but treasure them all.

My first Gold DCC disc goes way back to December 2001 when I stumbled upon the former DCC website. This guy Steve Hoffman was trying to get 300 members by the end of December and so I joined up and went to my local Circuit City and bought Queen's "A Night At The Opera" gold disc and became an audiophile. Now Steve is famous and has his own website.

My first encounter was volumes 7 & 8 and 9 & 10 of the old MCA Vintage Music. My first gold DCC CD was Hotel California and Eagles Greatest Hits Vol. 1
