A friend is looking for speakers for his stereo/home theater (no sourround though). Can anyone recommend any of the mainstream brands (Polk, NHT, etc)?

He's thinking $500-ish each, medium bookshelf size, say, about 2 feet tall?

Thanks!

Look into the Monitor Audio Silver Series or PSB speakers offer outstanding bang for the buck.

Hi HZ,

Since your bud wants to use them for home theatre and stereo, I would recommend the Polk 1000's. Circuit City is always discounting them to @$400 ea. and w/ the built-in subs they actually work well for the $ in a home theatre environment. Me thinks the new ones are model #'s 1000i and they have rather good reviews at audioreview.com.

Just a thought,
Jeffrey

HAve you ever heard of Mission speakers?

I've not been speaker shopping for quite a while now but they *used* to be very good and economical! Maybe they still are!

Canadian made. I have no idea what the cost or availability would be in the USA. But if you happen to come across any, check 'em out!

:)

PS I did hear some Totem speakers (I think they are also Canadian made) hooked up to some very expensive solid state. I was NOT impressed!
