How do I research how many different versions there are for a particular recording.

AMG site says Santana Abraxas LP has a Columbia version and a Sony version. (My Abraxas sounds like a sanding truck ran over it)

But there is a half speed CBS version on eBay, along a bunch of "Audiophile" 180 gram versions.

Where do I learn what to look for, or how many to look for to find the best sounding one?

Anyone have an opinion (uh oh, that word again) about which is the best Abraxas version?

I'll always be the one who haven't bought yet.

All kidding aside I personally like the German reissue that came out a few years ago. It was done by a German audiophile label (I can't remember the name of the label). The CBS 1/2 Speed is also pretty good. I have also heard that it initially appeared in the US on the 360 Columbia label although I have never found one and I purchased mine a week after it was released and it was not on that label.

The ARS is pretty nice sounding, however, it is in the $30 range. To me ,it has a nice wide soundstage .
