The new Jack Black movie is actually getting seriously rave reviews. A surprise since I really didn't expect much when I first saw the ads.
I can't wait to see it, most likely tomorrow (Sunday).

I probably won't see it this weekend, but I'm definitely going to see it. Jack Black is great.

Looks like it will be a great movie afterall. I love that 69' SG he's holding in the poster. My duo partner has the exact same Gibson that also has the Gibson tremolo tail piece removed and replaced with a stock model.

On a related note, be aware that JB is hosting the Season Premier of SNL tonight. My TiVo's already set for it.

That's right! My favorite skit of his last hosting was when he played a monster that requested "a more experienced" woman than the virgins they were offering him.

Jack Black is very funny, and it's a shame he's not likely to take the paycut to perform full-time on a skit show like SNL anytime soon. I think we're only seeing a sliver of his comedic talents.

Wouldn't you prefer an entire season of Jim Carrey on SNL to his next movie? Do you think Wayne Brady will ever be as funny as he was on WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY?

If they can pay those mannequins on FRIENDS six million dollars a week, why can't we get Jack Black, Wayne Brady, and Jim Carrey back on television where they belong?

Ok, I just got back from seeing it and I had a great time!
Gobs of heart, very funny and surprisingly sincere.
Highly recommended. :)

Yeah you're probably right, it makes more sense that way. I liked the bit about "the man" a lot too. I can't wait to see it again.

BTW, those kids can really play. The jam during the end credits appears to be all real and live.

Yeah, they do all play. I saw a special about the movie where Jack Black explained that they just went out and tried to find the most talented kids they could.

Saw the movie Saturday night, and brought my 9 year old daughter. She loved it. She wants me to get her the Soundtrack. I told her I will make her a compilation with all the same songs, since I have all the albums of the classic rock tunes in the movie (with the exception of the 'School of Rock' originals). NO - she wants the real soundtrack.

Well, I will buy it for her... hey this may be a start getting her on the right track to listening to the music I like. The soundtrack has Zep, The Ramones, T-Rex, Cream, etc. This is better than having her listen to Kelly Clarkson, etc.

This is a GREAT family movie! I wouldn't hesitate to take my kids to see it. God only knows why it got a PG-13 rating. The last Austin powers was PG-13 when it clearly deserves an "R". Oh well. Take your kids "School of Rock", they'll have a blast!

Ditto all the positive comments about SOR.

What I really liked the most was that they got pretty much all of the details right.

I mean, when JB is handing out "homework" to the kids (CD's), he gives a few pointers on what to listen for. When he hands the drummer Rush's 2112, he mentioned to listen for Neil Peart's drum work. Cool. Very, very cool.

Who ever wrote this really knew the music that was mentioned.

I also noticed in the drumming video montage there was a clip of jazz great Art Blakey.

I saw that too - very cool, I thought, rounding out the musical references.

Watched the film Saturday afternoon, highly entertaining. Just a fun flick - it won't change your view of film as a genre, but it's a nice flick. Can't wait for the DVD.

Is the soundtrack well mastered (I just had to ask!). Loved the movie!

Maybe I should pick up the soundtrack anyway!

This was a great movie. I was very impressed with the kids' instrument training and how far they have come in making it look as though they could really play (Partridge Family, anyone?). Of course that was until I heard they really can play.

I picked it up over the weekend and to be honest have only had the chance to listen to it in the car but it was hit or miss if you ask me.

The SOR songs sounded very compressed. "Immigrant Song" sounded especially brighter than I'm used to hearing it. The Cream, Doors, and T-Rex songs were OK (even though it's a tad bright).

The cover of "TV Eye" by Wylde Ratttz and the Ramones "Bonzo Goes To Bitburg" were pretty much unlistenable. I had to turn the volume down on these tracks because they seemed louder than anything else on the CD. I'll try to spin it at home this weekend although I doubt it'll improve any.

It's still great to have, especially for the few sound bytes from the film. Great flick! :)

Saw School Of Rock with the family last night and we all enjoyed it....Jack Black is some force of nature...you gotta love the guy.

It's very cool that a film about Rock comes out in an era when most kids have no idea who a Led Zep is or was.

Fine little heartwarmer, this one. I really like Linklater's style, even when he's depressing me to death with a masterpiece like Dazed and Confused. The man knows how to write, he knows how to make movies, and he sure as heck knows his music.

Long live rock.
