What was the last straw? Devo's "Whip It" used for a Swiffer commercial: "Swiff it good!" :hurl: :hurl:

Count me in on this. If I hear Bob Seger's "Like A Rock" one more time, I swear, I'm gonna buy a Chevy truck!!

Disagree.

Why?

1. Keeps the songs going, because radio, unless you have XM or just a damn good radio market, these songs are long dead, test poorly (in some markets - Sad, isn't it?) and never get exposure, especially to a new generation.

2. More money for the artist. All the power to them. Some of them can't or don't tour anymore. If Mark Mothersbaugh cleans up with Target and Johnson Wax, I feel he deserves it. Some artist tour their brains off, lose HUGE money with record contracts and licensing, and those legal fees are bananns.

Commercials aren't my favorite entertainment, no. But if you wrote "White Christmas", you would feel differently. You wouldn't even live where you are now.

I don't mind if they use the song....but CHANGING it drives me nuts....like

"Oh Bar-B Q....." .......instead of Suzie Q!!!!!

or
"Cheeese....cheese...cheese, cheese" instead of James Brown's Please Please Please

God, years. I remember being a grade school student and seeing Chevy truck commercials with "Like A Rock" in them during football games!

Agreed. This has already been mentioned on a thread from awhile back but what that jeans TV ad (I forgot name of company) did to John Fogerty's "Fortunate Son" was an abomination, IMO.

The worst for me was the use of The Smiths How Soon is Now in a commercial. I forget the product but the commercial showed some your attractive boys and girls at party having the time of their life.......of course How Soon is Now is about staying home alone and wanting to kill yourself!

Mark, I think they haven't gotten through with the message yet. They ARE trying to sell you a CHEVY TRUCK in that commercial.:D
