I bought a CD - The Very Best of The Doors - this weekend. It says it was digitally remastered in 2001 by Bruce Botnick. I was really pleasantly surprised at how good this CD sounds on my system and thought I'd pass this along if there are any Doors fans out there (they were/are LA homeboys, after all).
It has most of the cuts from their collection I really liked - classics like "20th Century Fox", "The Crystal Ship", "Love Me Two Times", etc.
I guess my favorite cut is "Riders on the Storm" and I was really knocked out to hear the clean, extended highs on this cut along with the driving bass and the overall jazzy feel to it.
The drum sounds Botnick got on some of these records are about the best I've ever heard...
There's a Doors website www.thedoors.com for anybody interested. It looks like there are a lot of reissues. Plus some interesting paraphenalia like resin "Lizard King" bookends (is there no limit to what is possible with a fertile, creative merchandising mind?).
Back to the original point - if you like The Doors, you won't be disappointed with the sonics on this CD.
Nice job, in my opinion. The care lavished on this shows.
Seems to me if the analog masters (circa King Tut, I think) are in that good shape, they deserve a 180 gram LP. Anybody interested?
