This is the only show listed yet on Ticketmaster, so fer gits and shiggles I punched in to see how much one little ticket would run at the best available seating. Well, a mere $350 would do the trick. S'pose it might come out on video, this tour?

I sure hope it comes out on video. At those kinda prices that's the only way I'll get to see it. Might be better sound quality anyway than the humungoid places he's playing out here.

The tickets prices for Vegas are not the norm for the rest of the tour. The average for just about all the shows will be $55-250. Wild Horses couldn't keep me from the D.C. show! This promises to be Macca's most rockin' series of concerts yet, with lots of surprises in the set list.
I'm also one who thinks Driving Rain is his best record in at least 25 years! I love so many of those tracks...and on the cd, I find from track 5 on to be just simply sublime.
I don't think Macca will ever top this album again!

I got that the day it came out...can't stand Ebony and Ivory:(
I think the title cut is wonderful, best on the album. I -like- a few of the other songs, like the Perkins duet and Take It Away, and Here Today....I find a lot of side 2 filler however.
It also has a bit too much studio polish for my taste. Driving Rain is stripped down great, the Macca record I've been waiting years for....and the guitar and drum work I find mind-blowing! The psych 60's touches with wah-wah and bended notes is simply marvelous. Rinse The Raindrops I consider Macca's best workout in his entire solo career. Oh...and I also own a copy every Macca album produced, even the weird ones like that Fireman stuff (not terribly impressed with that).

Yeah, I do too. I'm a huge Macca fan. (Do you have Thrillington?)
I guess we just have different Macca tastes though; I think Tug of War is his best and most consistent record apart from Band on the Run. I'm afraid I find much of Driving Rain underwhelming, but hey ... diff'rent strokes!

Yep, I got thrillington too...for 50 cents at a goodwill, mint in shrinkwrap:)
I like the Wings stuff, but the more polished it gets, the more I lose interest. I like McCartney and Ram better, even Wild Life (which I didn't like at first when it was new, but throughout that year it grew on me).
I loved the wings stuff through London Town, and I was right in the front of the stage for the '76 tour, which had all the excitement of an actual Beatles concert...people screamed throughout the show, I saw people crying, and I even got eye contact with the man himself mid-song...one of those moments you never forget.
I realize the new album is a departure to the traditional Macca sound, but I guess that's why I like it so much. I saw him on the Flowers tour too and while the oldies were great, I thought the new tracks were boring as all get-out, and I feel that way about most all of his 80's and 90's work. Each album has a few decent songs, but to me they never really rise above 'ok'. On the new album, I'm floored by the lyrics from track 5 on, and like I said, the psych/raw sound is right up my alley:)
I also like the depth I find in DR, as it shows an artist in transition both personally and professionally. I find the messages to Linda deeply moving and the references to the afterlife bested only by the lyrics on a typical George Harrison album:)

Wow, I wish I could've seen that tour ... But I was only four years old at the time.

Agreed on all points. I saw him on that tour too and I felt similarly ... I couldn't BELIEVE he chose to follow up the opening montage of film from throughout his career with "Figure of Eight" as his opening song! (I liked the recording on Flowers in the Dirt, but it seemed to fall flat live, IMO.)
Perhaps I need to give Driving Rain another chance. I'll have to throw it on the pile for this week's listening ... :)

start with track 5 and pay close attention to each one. The album is really a concept album, believe it or not, and works by album 'sides' 1-4 are all about the pain of loneliness and the loss of Linda, and the desire to break away from the constant angst. 5-8 looks back on the relationship with Linda with deep fondness and reflects on all the positive things that happened during their time together.
9-12 introduce Heather into his life and how this has helped him overcome his grief.
13-15 deal with his new relationship and optimism for the future and find him enjoying himself again.
Freedom is, of course, a bonus track.

Oh, *that's* what it is! Someone I know has a soundboard of a show where it fades in at "Figure of Eight". Maybe I *will* get a copy after all! ;)
