How about a remastered mono version of Pet Sounds, the way it was supposed to be done?
Thanks...

You're in luck! Steve's already done Pet Sounds for DCC:

Terrific! Is it available as an LP? I'm another vinyl holdout.
Thanks.

Hey Clive,
Welcome aboard! At least I won't be the only Vancouverite anymore unless, you actually live in the burbs.;)
It's out on vinyl but WAY out of print. Expect to pay up. Here is a link to Acoustic Sounds. They are the only big online retailer that still shows this title in stock, for $150. You really gotta want it for that price.

US$150 is a little rich for me. Perhaps Steve will consider releasing it again on vinyl so we can get it at a reasonable price.

I have to say -- with all due respect to Steve and his work on Pet Sounds (I have and love the DCC gold CD) -- I have a Warner Bros. mono LP issue of that album that I like just about as much.
It was packaged along with the album Carl and the Passions -- So Tough; for some bizarre reason they made that into a double album by packaging it with Pet Sounds. I see it regularly in used-LP shops for US$10, and it sounds wonderful, much better than the Capitol mono original I inherited from my mother.
I can't say I've done an A/B comparison of the Warner edition and Steve's DCC LP, but look at the price differential at the moment.
Of course, I'd love to see a new Hoffman edition on LP (or even a reissue of the one he already did). I'd snap it up ...

Thanks for the tip Jeff. I'll check this out next time I'm south of the border (to the U.S. that is). I'll also continue to scour the used record stores here.

If you buckle Clive and want the CD version, I have one listed in the classified forum...cheap!! :)

Thanks for the kind offer, but I shall resist the temptation and find it, eventually, in my preferred medium.

I also own the version that came packaged with Carl And The Passions and I would like to second the statement that this version sounds fantastic. It is on the Brother records label and is one of the best deals out there.

Wow, I'm glad that I bought the mono vinyl version when it came out-$150?! Yipes! While on topic-Steve-did the British Capitol reissue that came out about the same time use your master? Just curious, MM

Steve's Gold CD is more available, should go for less and sounds just as good. I have both the CD and LP DCCs.

I've been told on Brian Wilson's forum that there's no way to produce a remastered-in-stereo version of the song Good Vibrations, that the tapes can't be found anymore or something- I don't recall the exact reason but I think that's close. But, you know that somewhere there must exist the tapes to either put together a stereo version or, dare I say it here, produce an "artificial stereo" version (don't throw me off the forum!). It's just a shame that such a classic recording can only be heard in mono, when it's crying out to be heard in stereo, or at least something very close to stereo. Maybe I need to go back to the Pet Sounds box and review David Leaf's liner notes and perhaps that will shed some light on the issue.
How many speakers does one need to enjoy music? I've always felt that one is enough. I own a lot of mono records and I've never felt that I was missing anything. I have a 78 of West end Blues that is an emotional experience. Is 2 better than 1 is 5.1 or 6.1 or 7.1 better than 2? I dunno, but if you dismiss a recording just because it's mono you're going to missout on a lot of good music.

It's been done by a fan using Cool Edit. Synched up the stereo backing track and the standard mono version. While BW probably wouldn't approve, it actually wasn't all that bad, it did provide a nice stereo ambience. Probably pretty easy to find out there in download land.

It is hard for me to encourage anybody spend $150 for a record. The DCC LP is very fine, so I am wondering if it could be re-negotiated to release Steve's master on SACD. It's a popular title, and the hybrid CD layer would assure mass market acceptance.
Wait, mono would kill it in the mass market. Oh, well.

Sounds like a great idea... Standard SACDs have a "stereo area" and a "multitrack area". Why not go the other way, and have a "stereo area" and a "special audiophile mono area"?

Thanks. And... wow!
It's not perfect, but it sounds great! Does Steve's version have all that bass?

Hey there Beachboy fans [nuts]!!!!!
Best place to ask this [?] Has anyone heard about the "Dead Angel"
label Beachboy releases? Could be an off-shoot of the Sea-of-tunes
boot label. "DA" features lots of alternate takes and rare stereo mixes.
