Are you buying more and listening less? I'm interested to find out how much time you'all (how's that for a misplanted Brooklynite) spend listening. If I'm lucky I get to go into my listening room for maybe an hour at night. Not even enough time to have the tubes warm up.

We all need to find a way to email Tommy some "listening time" for himself so he can play 'ketchup'.
Anyone know a good babysitter? :p
I'd volunteer, Tommy. You're really quick to grab lots of stuff all at once too. I bet I cound't catch up to YOU within months!

I usually make sure I have at least an hour and a half in the listening room each night that I'm home. On weekend days in the house, it's a bit more (though I usually take one of those to go out, often to -- what else?? -- go LP shopping).
Yesterday I took the day off work, and I was in there most of the day. When you're married, you've really got to GRAB that precious alone time!!!
I keep a box of new records and CDs waiting to be listened to for the first time, and right now it's enough to keep me busy for at least a week.

Whatever I get it's never enough. Then it seems I spend a good chunk of the time I do have trying to decide what I want to listen to. It's hell being Charlie Brown. And you're getting there Tommy but it's one syllable y'all.:D
I can sympathize, Tommy! I've got two 10-month old twin girls in the house, so listening time is at a premium. The funny thing, though, is that i've been able to buy a lot more since one of my regular "sanity retreats" is to the used cd/record store around the corner. It's a great place to get away for a few minutes to "relax" when my wife is watching the kids. I'd bet only in this group would you find people who consider sifting through old records and cds "relaxing." :)

For those of you with small children, why don't you just bring them into the listening room with you? I did just that and today my kids love the Beatles as much as I do. Expose them to all kinds of good music AND GOOD SOUND. Let them try that sweet spot (older than 10 months of course).
I used to get in listening time rocking (or dancing) in the sweet spot with my baby in my arms. My kids would smile and laugh as I danced them around to the music. And not once, NEVER ONCE, did they say "That mofi has a 10Khz boost!"
Today (ages 12 to 5) they are curious as to why daddy just listens to LP's. They have learned alot from me about equipment and setup. Hopefully, I have created four audiophiles for the future.

Got a nice size listening room (20' x 30') and I make a point of listening every evening/morning between 12am and 5am. I make sure to fire up the tubes as soon as I get up, if I don't leave them on overnight.
Turn the lights down low and volume up high!
If it's not already apparent, I live alone. ;)
BTW: Worst period of my life: When I was married to a girl that didn't see any reason for me to hook up my stereo (or buy music for that matter "You already have a Beatles record, why do you need another one?"). Yikes. Not worth it!!!
Hey Sam,
Oh, my girls are already listening to a lot of music. None of that Raffi or Barney stuff (at least not yet), but lots and lots of jazz, blues, and classic rock. I'm actually a bit worried that, in a few years, they'll be the only preschoolers who know who Mingus is or know all the words to "Cherokee Dance." :)
How's the weather out there in Rochester? Lived the first 15 years of my life in Irondequoit, but haven't been back in years.
