Thought I would post this picture of the system under construction. The Fisher X-202-B came today and I just got it all wired up. The next step is deciding which cd player I am keeping. I am going to be choosing between the Music Hall CD 25 in the photo and my Heart CD6000. I think I'm going to ditch the Nakamichi 700 II and get a different deck. That thing is just too big. I also need to set up the turntable/mount the cartridge and plug in some new Harmonic Tech speaker cables as soon as they get here. I found a Scott 333 tuner and I'm waiting for that to arrive also. A quick rundown on what you see here: In the foreground are a pair of KLH Model Six speakers that are disconnected. To the right and left we have Tannoy Mallorcan Monitor Golds. Amplifier is as above, the Fisher X-202-B. Cd player also as above, the Music Hall CD 25. Turntable is a JA Michell Hydraulic Reference, and we know what the monster cassette deck is.

Looks awesome! Can't wait for a report on how it sounds. With all of the effort you've been putting into this, I hope it's all that you're hoping for:)

Oh believe me, George....it is all that I was hoping for and more! This thing sounds INCREDIBLE. I am more than satisfied already and I haven't even finished tweaking this sucker. I've finally found what was missing from the sound of my system for so long. I made the right decision. This system sounds better than ANY audiophile system I've ever had, and that is the absolute truth. THIS MAKES ME LOVE THIS FORUM EVEN MORE, because if it wasn't for this place, I never would have known to look toward tubes and vintage Tannoys. Steve, thanks for turning us on! In the words of John Lennon, "Right on, brother"! :righton:

Prix, if you are so happy, why the SF Sorrow avatar? ;)

Seriously, congratualtions! Do give us a final report. Are you giving away a free trip to a lucky winner to visit and listen? ;)

I've also heard some rather expensive SS stereos and I tend love my McIntosh stuff better! :)

Prixie:

Hey Dude: I see your Stooges album! You misfiled it! It's just under your amp next to your copy of "The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle"

Seriously Hoss; excellent job. I know you put a lot of work into this system and hope you enjoyed every minute.

Peace-
Norm

Prix,

That's a nice looking, and I'm sure a nice sounding system. Your Tannoy speakers look like they were well taken care of by their previous owner.

Enjoy,

Hey Prix,

Is the TT vintage? Why sell the NAK, those were very nice units? What would you replace the NAK with?

The Christmas lights are a nice touch. Do they flash in sync with the music?

:D

They actually weren't. They were also damaged pretty badly in shipping. The guy screwed me pretty bad. He not only described them totally inaccurately, but he just threw them in a cardboard box with no padding. One of the grills was broken and there was a lot of superficial cabinet damage. It was a real shame. It actually made me feel physically sick to see such a beautiful piece of history so needlessly and carelessly destroyed. They look nice now because I've probably got about 5 or 6 hours into refurbishing them.

The NAK is too big and heavy. It kind of freaks me out. I'm also going broke from all this and can use the money. I've got an old Marantz cassette deck that I'll probably use for a while. The turntable is indeed vintage. It's from the early '70s. Check it:

Yes, aren't those stands perfect??! I was worrying about what to do for stands and I just found those boxes at the same yardsale that had the Beatles UK mono lp I got. They were $2 each and they just happened to fit perfectly! I'm going to fill them with 45 rpm and 10" record storage to deaden them. I'm also going to put spikes under the bottom and perhaps a rubber interfact between the Tannoys and their surface.

The Flaming Lips rule. Check them out on Amazon and you can hear samples. Their best albums are the Soft Bulletin and the one you see in the photo of my listening room.

Hi Prix,

Your link didn't work for me but BC has already answered my question as to whether the pic was from 'Clockwork Orange'. That looks like a really cool TT, how long have ya had it? How much green are ya asking for the NAK?

The Nakamichi is a nice piece. I bought it from Michael Garges, the president of the Hovland company. It was his personal deck and their chief engineer serviced it, so he told me. I'd like to get somewhere around $300 for it. If you are interested, we'll jump on over to the classifieds and set the transaction up by the rules in the right place to conduct such business. Let me know....

Is the matter of fact, I am probably going to be selling the amp in this thread:

http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20809

And I will also be selling a Harman Kardon A50K, which is the identical amp except it's the kit version. It's missing a knob and is not as cosmetically nice, but it will be cheap and will be gone through by my tech, repaired, and ready to plug and play. If you are interested, let me know and we'll take our business over to the classified section so that we can do everything out in the open according to the rules. Thanks for your interest.
