Any of you gents have an opinion on whether $1,850 would be a fair price for these Tannoy Belvederes (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3043960586&category=14993)? I'm afraid, though, that I may be taking a step closer toward an audiophile cliff and further from my goal of a best-for-the-money system with these.

Well, don't forget the giant shipping cost!

I think that $1,500.00 is about right; with shipping that would be about two grand total....

Thanks, Steve. I was afraid you were going to say that, that it's in the ballpark of fairness. I guess it goes without saying that these would at least keep their value over the years. I could give my wallet some solace with that. But let's say I hold off on speakers of this caliber for 10 years or so. Do you think vintage Tannoys will more or less just keep their value (like gold) in the face of inflation, or do you think I would have to pay exponentially more down the road? In which case, I could also rationalize these as an investment.

Don't overextend yourself. You'll only grow to hate 'em!

Wait until you can comfortably afford what you want; they will always be around....

I'm glad to hear that! Thanks. I can be happy with what I have for now.

I agree with Steve. These are gorgeous, but the price he wants is too high. This is the second time that he's had them on ebay and they've gone for $1500 both times. The guy should take the hint. In addition to high shipping cost, you might get slammed with some duty/taxes as well. The deals are out there if you keep looking. I paid $600 for my Tannoys, but of course they are 12"s and they are nowhere near as nice as these Belvederes. Pdenny paid $15 for his! It just depends on if you are willing to wait. I've been watching Tannoys on ebay for quite a while now and there hasn't been much in terms of vintage. This pair that you are looking at is the nicest pair that I've ever seen on the site. If you don't mind spending a little extra to get something really nice, then go for it.

Excellent advice - that applies to all aspects of our hobby.

I've just had it tattood in "mirror writing" on my forehead so I am reminded of it each day while shaving. :)
