I want a vintage cassette deck with a gold face. I'm having a hell of a time finding one. Has anyone ever seen anything like this besides the Nakamichi 1000ZXL Ltd Edition and those crappy Marantz decks from the early '80s?

Nope, but I did see a Nak, like you mention, on eBay once, going for a measly $4-5000. Well, that was the starting bid anyway.

Denon had some gold faced cassette decks but from the 80s/90s.
There may have been an earlier Luxman but I think they only had gold knobs against a silver fascia.
You might be out of luck as silver was the "in" colour back in the 70s.

I believe that the Marantz 5010 and 5010b were available with a champagne coloured faceplate :)

IIRC there was also a Realistic model with the Champagne face plate.

Yeah that was probably the Real Gold Plated Nak 1000 ZXL or something like that. Listed for 10G when new, but not different from the standard 1000, other than the Gold Plating.

I could have sworn most Harman Kardon products in the 80's were gold or champagne. I'm not so sure about their 70's output tho'.
