View Full Version : How Many CDs?

How many CDs do you own?. 3000+ for me...This time I'm not dumping ANY like I did with all my LPs...A definite learning experience.
I just went through a massive dumping about 4 months ago. I had a lot of sheer crap, so I got rid of it. The CDs I have now are truly the best of my collection and ones that I know will get played over & over.
Total Count now is:
1120 Redbook CDs (not counting disc sets as individual discs, just 1. So Beethoven's complete piano sonatas count as 1, not 10. Box sets of individual albums though, like the Led Zeppelin Steel Box, still count as individual discs. I know....I'm bizarre)
27 DVD-Audio Discs
4 DADs (Digital Audio Discs)
68 Super Audio CDs
22 DTS 5.1 Channel CDs

Same here... around 2k. I haven't counted in about 3 years, and at that time it was 1500.

I'm probably around 2100 titles. I have a database of song titles that is currently at 22,353. This does not include Jazz, Lounge, Christmas or duplicate titles.

Possibly 1700. The saturation of CDRs have gotten a little out of control tho.

About 500 I guess.
That's enough for me. I don't play half of them enough as it is.

At its biggest, my collection was at 2000+. I've spent the past few years slowly but surely paring down, and now I'd estimate I have about 1000. I've sold many of them off and used the money to buy better equipment, a guitar or two -- and LPs.

I haven't counted for awhile, but estimate over 3000 CDs, and over 500 LPs.

If we're venturing into LPs I have a couple thousand of them too. I shuuder at even thinking about counting or cataloging my 45s.

Down to a tight 1200-1300 or so after a mass sell-off a couple years ago, plus a couple hundred LPs, about 20 SACDs, and around a dozen cassettes in an old shoebox. :)

In relationship to my vinyl collection (and addiction to it), my CD collection is small......maybe about 1,500 give or take a few.
LP's - 10,000 +
45's - 12,000 +

All numbers approximate:
500 CD's
900 LP's
200 SINGLES
50 Cassettes - only 10% commercially pre-recorded, mostly radio concerts from the 70's and 80's
10 high Fi VHS tapes (from an experiment in the 80's to look for an economical equivalent to casette tapes).
Around 100 CD-R's
Such a puny collection, and the ONLY music I WILLINGLY traded in was the Dukes of Stratosphere CD (I was drunk and owed $50 in late charges to the local library - lol).
Such an embarisingly puny collection, I should be made a junior member again.

You guys are insane!:) How do you do it? I'm so anal I am continually looking for weaknesses in my collection to weed out. If anything bugs me about a disc, it's gone. I usually get decent money peddling it on ebay and that money goes toward experimenting on new discs.
When do you find time to listen to 5000 discs??? That's like 13 discs per day, every day for a year! If you only listened to one disc a day, it would be 2015 before you made it through your collection (assuming you would purchase no more discs for the next 13 years).
Of course, I've been known to listen to the same thing over and over for weeks on end. I have albums that remind me of different months of my life. Elvis Costello's Blood & Chocolate; listened to it nonstop for weeks through my headphones while reading Helter Skelter. Even now, listening that that album scares the hell out of me!
I just moved so I can say I have about 80 feet of cd's, plus a couple boxes of box sets. If you are moving I recommend www.papermart.com and their 6x6x12 box. :)
I have over 800 cd's about the same in LP's, 200-300 gold cd's, maybe 75 SACD's and about 10 DAD's. I guess it is time to get ride of those old Kansas albuems I have not listened to in 25 years!:o
