I'll start:

MFSL 178 Super Session.
See, they make some good records! I'm not bashing them; I'm just bashing the BAD records they made.

MFSL 12 Fleetwood Mac/ Fleetwood Mac
Avoid the RE-1 stampers on side 2. Not as good.

And that advice is free! How about that!

Hey, Steve,

Don't be a wuss. You name some. If I can do it you can do it.

I'm not Steve, but I do recommend checking out the Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 MoFi LP.

And I don't recommend the MoFi Supertramp Breakfast In America.

Can't agree there Jeff. Mediocre in my book.

But hey, to each his own.

Actually, because I like you, I will send you a hot copy to hear what you are missing.

See? Helping, not hurting.

If I name the MoFi's I like, then by process, you will assume I hate all of the rest. This of course could only hurt Stan Ricker's feelings when he cruises here.

I keep my Beatles' and Stones' boxes handy...

Tom, were the masterings and pressings in the box set of the Beatles different from the individual releases?

I am actually more a fan of the MoFi CD's, up until the Ultradisc II's.

I love "Sittin' In", and "A Salty Dog" "Elephant Mountain" and all of those early nifty silver MoFi's, including the Firesign Theatres'.

All of these are directly mastered from the master tapes, unmessed with, warts and all. Also a lot of the Gold's, like "Innervisions" and others of that era.

I'd actually say... "But hey, to each his own stereo!"

Hey, take a look at the stereo domestic A&M stamper #s I posted in my other thread - that should give you an idea of the stereo copy that I have.

"Elephant Mountain" a great album, however, I've never heard the MOFI.

Try and find it, or a good copy. Sounds just like the real deal. All of those silver MoFi's do. Procol Harum especially.

Kinks' MISFITS. Kills any other version, CD or LP.

I've heard all the Procol Harum MOFIs and they are excellent. Broken Barricades is my favorite.

Yeah, I like the MoFi silver (okay, alluminum) Broken Barricades as well, although I bet Steve could take it up another notch or two; besides, I'd dearly love to have that one in gold. :D

I have several excellent MoFi silvers including all the Firesign discs and Quincy Jones- Smackwater Jack. But my all time best find was Spirit - The Tweleve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus. I got it at a used CD place for $6.99! This hobby is like searching for coins on the beach with a metal detector, every once in a while you find a rolex.

So true.

And just because I can't help myself:

The aluminum series gets no respect from the MOFI collector, even though they consistently sound better. Why is that?

Is it about the music and the sound? Or is is about collecting?

DCC titles will never see the collector prices that MOFI titles do. Why is that? Because they appeal to music lovers more than collectors?

What say you all?

I agree, the only aluminum MOFI that jumps to mind right away that could have been done a bit better is (unfortunately) Grateful Dead - Mars Hotel. However people always think that gold is better (marketing?) maybe 'cause it's more expensive.

Ah hem!,

I am a Mofi collecter and am totally in love with the Mofi aluminums.

The ones that I've heard anyways, Alan Parsons Project: I Robot, Rick Wakeman: Journey To The Center Of The Earth (BTW the gold version sucks!), Al Stewart: The Year Of The Cat and Joe Walsh: Barnstorm.

BTW I don't care what it's pressed on (ie. gold, aluminum etc.) as long as it sounds this good.;)

Their aluminum jazz is still the king according to one Mr. Pincus. (Stealing his ideas again!)

Two of my favorite aluminum MoFi's, which I've been listening to lately are: Waylon Jennings' The Taker / Tulsa with Honky Tonk Heroes (two fine albums included on one disc). Also The Flying Burrito Brothers self-titled third album (recorded after Rick Roberts replaced Gram Parsons). I don't think that Burrito album has been released on CD by any other label before or since, at least in the U.S.

MFSL 12 Fleetwood Mac/ Fleetwood Mac

TP,

I have three copies of MFSL 12. All three have the RE-1 stamp on side 2. Now I understand why you can get upset in your record hunting. I guess I should just keep looking (not easy) or fork over the big ones (definitely not easy) for an issue without the re-issue stamp.

I told Holy Zoo it was 1 out 10 without the RE-1.

Believe me now and hear me later, I speak the truth!

And I have no copies to sell anybody, sorry.

So what is the deal with Ultradisc II's? And were there issues of the same title that were both non-UD II's and UD II's? Or does each disc either fall into non-UD II's or UD II's?

Does this make sense to anyone but myself?

The best way young Grasshopper is to go here for all your MFSL aluminum and gold cd answers.

http://www.aurealm.com/jade.htm then click on MFSL FAQ and you will gain the wisdom.;) :D
