I understand it allows you to import itunes playlists, but what if you don't use itunes for your home listening? I have a FLAC library and for the life of me cannot figure out how to create a playlist using the squeezebox server software.

Yes, it is a bit quirky.

I'm assuming you are looking at the Web UI in a browser. If you choose an album or a track to play, it shows up in a list on the right. You can add and delete tracks from this list. For example, if you hold the mouse over a track, you'll see an X button which deletes it. And if you search for another track, and click the + button, it gets added to the list. You can also reorder tracks by dragging them up and down.

If you hadn't guessed by now, this is in fact a playlist. At bottom right is a save icon. Click this, and the list moves to the left panel with a default name of untitled. You can amend the name and then click Save.

Now the playlist appears by that name in your playlist collection.

So how do you amend a playlist? If you go to Home - my music - playlists, you can open your playlists, amend them and re-save.

I just tried it and it does seem to work pretty well. Is pretty quirky though, and not very intuitive without instructions. Thank you so much for the quick tutorial!!!!

Is there any way to populate two or more playlists at once (i.e., without having to open and close playlists to access them)?

For example, if I'm going through my artists to make a rocking party playlist, but i'm seeing songs I'd like to add to a mellow playlist, I'd like to make these separate playlists at the same time.

Hey I'm in the same boat, had the Touch for a few months now, and still learning that nothing is easy.

Look at this, http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84763&highlight=playlists&page=2 post#14.

I haven't tried it because I have to fix my library, [tagging issues]. I don't use itunes or any other web based service, just wanna listen to my music on my system.

If you have any success, please report back.

Do you have computer/network access to the hard drives? If so, you can edit and/or create the playlists yourself manually. Squeezebox recognizes m3u playlists which are basically just text files with the paths and filenames. I recommend using notepad to edit them.

But you will need to spend some time at first getting the path correct. IIRC, Slim supports both absolute and relative paths. Look to the server to find the current playlist folder and open one in notepad to see what it is using for the path. You can then copy that path to use a "find and replace" in notepad to set the path correct for the playlists that you create manually.

Tag&Rename and Mp3tag are good at creating playlists. I install Winamp just for the purpose of generating compilation playlists - it’s easy to just drag-n-drop the files into the player and save to an m3u playlist.

Having never done a Squeezebox playlist before, after stumbling around initially, I managed by almost sheer accident to create a Winamp m3u playlist usable by my Squeezebox. I say by accident because I didn't really grasp GreenDrazis post immediately above.

First, I downloaded & opened Winamp, then chose a bunch of songs from my Squeezebox music folders in my computer, and went ahead and created a playlist there in Winamp.

Opened up the Squeezebox Server Control Panel, clicked upon the "library" tab and on that tab page noticed the existing "Playlists Folder" location on my computer (don't really recall using playlists for my Squeezebox before so I'm not sure how I ended up with this existing empty "Playlists" folder).

Armed with that playlist location "path" info, I named the new playlist I had just created, and then saved it to that same location path, via Winamp's "file" drop down menu, "save playlist" option. Then shifted back over to the "Status" tab on the Squeezebox Server Control Panel window and chose the "only rescan playlists" option.

Once that quick rescan was completed, turned on my Squeezebox Classic and navigated my way to the playlists section on the Squeezebox itself and sure enough, my newly created playlist was there. That almost went too well. Not really useful to Fatman and rd1, however. Just rookies looking to do a single playlist at a time.
