I think the Faces with Rod Stewart were one of the great groups that never made the "A" list. IMO they have been sadly overlooked in Box set catagory. The best that Warners could come up with was a single disc retospective which didn't even include their non-lp b sides. So here's my question, I have only the original green Warners LP issues and the Japanese CD's, does anyone know if the UK pressing are any good or if there are any unstanding versions of their LP's. Hey Steve, maybe you could persuade S&P to issue an SACD or LP of their First Step album.

Unfortunately, the Faces had a great start...the first two albums...but then on the booze/drugs kicked in and they were so sloppy it was embarassing. Great if one is equally stoned.

They are supposed to be putting together a box set...and last I heard it was in the cassette stage of gathering songs, live and studio stuff. Their live songlist was mainly early solo Rod Stewart, so one has to love that stuff...I do, but up to a point. And the tartan stuff...it's too much sometimes to take in large doses.

Again, unless one is equally boozed up, the quality just isn't there.

Two CD's...and you're reallllly pushing it with these guys.

I have the late 80s Edsel CD of First Step and to me it's not bad at all sound wise. When this album came out in 1970 I bought it and it has always been my favorite Faces recording. I'm not familiar with the Japanese pressings.

Loved "First Step" too...picked it up due to in-store play of the album...that album and "Sweet Lady Mary" from "Longplayer" and that's about it.

Unless you're in the mood to party, then the Drunk Years songs are great too. Kind of sad, since all of that talent just went to waste.
