You've never seen a professional tape recorder before? Industry workhorse.
Here is mine, direct from United Studio B:

An Ampex four-track. What most great music from 1958 to 1968 was recorded on.

It's an Ampex washing mach... er, 300 machine, badly mis-threaded! I wouldn't call it "quadrophonic", though one could theoretically use it as such. It's an early multitrack deck. We actually had the full track version still in service at WUOM until about 5 or 6 years ago. Try that with your digital workstation!
I've never seen one remotely as nicely tricked out as Steve's, though!
I wonder if there's anything interesting on the included reels of tape?

Geez, how the heck would you ship something like that? These things must be a nightmare to maintain, but I bet it sure sounds good.

It's an Ampex Pro Four-track deck. Every studio in America had one in 1965!
How to maintain it? Call the Ampex Man of course; there still is one here in LA who maintains all of the machines. You should see the tubes in this baby!
