On the old board Steve said that the CD sounded so bright that it could kill insects.

I'm curious - does anyone have the vinyl? How does it compare?

The original vinyl is less shrill: 50% of the the insects in the study group survived. Of those: 30% suffered hearing damage between 10 and 12 khz.

Thanks Uncle! Sounds like vinyl might be the way to go, and I may have a try at eq-ing it myself.

The vinyl is better, but not wholly, Al's right. The album was made too bright to begin with, for better or worse.

Which CD issue are we discussing -- the original issue or the recent remaster? I'd guess they're both way too bright, but ... I have neither.

I have the original LP (with "Zanz Kan't Dance" before it was changed to "Vanz") and it sounds just OK. It's on the bright side but not ear-bleedingly so. Not exactly an audiophile reference recording ...

I think the new remaster is still too bright, but Bob L. could find a little bit analogue feeling... that's my opinion after I heard the HDCD the first time.

Boy I sure hope that Steve can eventually get around to doing this one.:)
