Any SH Forum member know the story of the rarest picture sleeve in the world-How many are known to exist and why was this sleeve never released in the USA or was it?

I do believe promo and a few stock copies slipped out with this (in)famous sleeve, which is now worth mega-bucks!!! If memory serves the pic was from the Paris riots of 1968.

Up until the cover photo was described - I couldn't picture it. NOW I remember - it had a helmeted officer roughing up a protestor. Yes - it was available in the U.S. - I had the single and sleeve when I was a kid.
I also remember the single mono mix having an ENTIRELY different vocal track, mixed MUCH more in the background than the standard stereo mix. It could be easily distinguished by the omission of the word "NO" at the end of every chorus. ("...in sleepy London town there's just no place for a street fighting man...NO").
Is this the mono mix that is on the single box or those mono Beggars boots? I had heard somewhere that that was an early mono mix and was withdrawn. If that true, now I'm doubly depressed - a rare sleeve and a rare mix lost to time.......

Oui, the Street Fighting Man London US Single had the regular vocal mix, but mixed waaaay back into the background. There was another Mick vocal placed over that, almost like he was singing two lead vocals.
In the LP mix that we know, it's the same thing (two leads), but the front vocal was done over again.....or vice versa. Check it out!

Yeah Sckott - I think you are right. Sadly, I no longer have the old mix to compare it to - I just remember the first time I heard the stereo mix I noticed that vocals seemed different. I would have invested in the Singles box - except I never really heard anything really good about it.......

Hmm, those look like American rather than European cops. Photo might be from the Democratic Convention in Chicago during the wonderful year of 1968.

And don't bother! The singles box has the stereo mix.

And you won't hear any praise from me either! A true "mish-mosh" of mostly mono with a dabbling of stereo thrown in. Even many commonly available stereo songs are mono.
I laugh everytime I play Heart of Stone on Disc 1 with a few seconds of Stereo intro, quickly turning to folded down mono! I last laughed a few years ago...the last time I played this masterpiece (of s@#$!!!). LOL!

This song had another title; "Pay Your Dues".
That outtake sounds the closest to the 45RPM London. Later on, they must have tinkered with the vocal mix for endless concerns at Olympic. I bet the timeline would show that the Stones were concered about the riots in London and the US, so they totally re-did that song quickly, me thinks. But the instrument tracks are bacailly the same.
I may have the London 45 Still... donno.. It's not great, sonically!

Even worse, those mono mixes aren't necessarily the single mixes...blech. A truly missed opportunity.

Hey, no one in this forum loves mono mixes more than I do but even I don't like that Singles Collection!
The 45 of "Street Fighting Man" is the best mix out there. It also works for me because I don't like Mick's vocals up front. I like them back in the mix, like the 45. But the instruments are clearer.
