Without getting too specific, I downloaded some .rar-formated music files and figured out how to convert them to .wav, but now all the separate tracks are connected into one long track. Does anyone now of a free/shareware program that can be used with a cue file to split them? I usually use EasyCD, but it doesn't appear to support cue files.

I may be wrong, but to my knowledge, RAR is only an archival format (such as ZIP or SIT), not an audio format (i.e. WAV or MP3.)

I use a program called cd wave to break long wave files up into smaller files. It also breaks the wave on the correct sector boundary for putting the music onto cd's. I usually load up the wave and start looking for the flat lines to use as break points.

I may have the terminology wrong, but I believe the wav files were compressed in RAR (it was the first time i've encountered it). Actually, the problem isn't in converting them from RAR - I found a free program that does that. But now I have one long wav file and a cue file (of the track breaks) but don't know how to use the cue file to break up the waves...

Ray, the cue file contains the info for any track breaks. You can load the cue file into EAC (if you use that) and burn the disc from there.

CD Wave (http://www.homepages.hetnet.nl/~mjmlooijmans/cdwave/index.html) ($15 shareware) will load the cue sheet (file) and write out the split wav's so you can make compilation CD-R's. It's very easy to use...from the File menu select 'Load Cue Sheet'...let the large wav load... click on the floppy disc icon 'Save Split Tracks into File' and the program splits the large wav into separate tracks (wav's) automatically. If the cue sheet has track names the split files will be named also. Nero (http://www.nero.com/en/631934351031098.html) CD recording software will also let you burn audio or data CD's directly from a cue sheet.

Clav, Koui, Mike, thanks! - that's exactly the info I was looking for. I have EAC but I'm not sure if I ever got it to run properly with Windows XP. I use EasyCD for just about everything with no problems, but it doesn't load cue files. I think I need to give CDWave a try...
