I'm trying to find the best available version of A Space In Time. I currently own the early Chrysalis version (F2 21001) but like most early discs it seems rather lifeless. I understand that there is a better sounding import version but I'm trying to find out what the label and catalog number is. Also where to buy. Anyone out there have any information or advice?

have released most of TYA in 97... all were remastered and sound far superior against the first pressings! The # is BGOCD 351
But EMI will release the complete backkatalog this year... and now with a lot of bonus tracks. Probably Pete Mew will do the remasters... he also di the Fillmore remix/remaster.

Yes, I really love the Q8 Quad version so very much. But if you're looking for something that sounds a little shiner, albeit clearer, the BGO does sound great.
Don't forget the Deram stuff. The debut and "Undead" are heavilly recommended, and they sound amazing. The 1st album s/b still available as UK/GEMA import. Both are audiophile treats.

Re. the TYA Deram discs - are you talking CD or vinyl? I had their first album and "Undead" on Deram vinyl and found them both thin. On the other hand have "Stonedhenge" on Deram CD and that sounds pretty good - a definite keeper.
Must confess I found Mew's "Fillmore" effort somewhat better than I thought it was going to be. It is uneven track to track, it is no-noised, the drums are too pronounced throughout - but with a little tweaking of the tone controls it sounds ok and the track "Help Me" is a real TYA knockout performance with one of the better mixes (to my ears) on the CD. Steve, pretty please, get hold of that Fillmore tape and do it real nice if it's not too beat up and degraded!

The debut sounds killer. "Undead" sounding thin?? Welllll, okay maybe a little. I concider it a very well done live recording. All I can say, is that I expected "Undead" to sound horrible, as I once DID own the vinyl to it. The CD sounds wonderful for what it is, and the performance is outstanding. It's a live recording for broadcast, and the sounds bounce all around in the room, crossing mics.... especially the precussion. You can really hear how sensitive the room is.
There is some audiable tape hiss, but the room sounds realistic. It was a "hot" recording. The mics seemed to pick up a LOT, more of the high-end sounds.
"Stonehenge" does sound great though. I'd hate to be behind the board mastering "Watt" though! I'd sprout 5 heads! The sound of that one is all over, but remembering what the RTR Ampex reel sounded like (commercial playback RtR) I think Watt was rought with problems at the get go, however magically the performances pull out the stops!
I'd love to hear "Watt" remastered just to hear what someone else did. "Shhh" seems to suffer the same kinda deal, although I don't think I've heard a great "Shhh".
