I recently made a great find and thought I'd share the good news here.

For the past couple of years since the remaster for Second Helping came out, I thought it really sucked. It sounded very muddy. I'm guessing it was no-noised to death as well as being compressed as hell.

I always heard to MOFI sounded great (esp. the UD-1 courtesy of Dave !), but have never heard this version. I guess you could say this was the one MOFI I really missed out on.

Well, I recently saw a Japanese import on Ebay going for about $19 so I figured what the hell, I'll check it out. Was I ever blown away ! This CD literally SMOKES the U.S. remaster ! It's so much warmer and clearer sounding than the U.S. pressing. Alot of clarity but not overly bright. I was REALLY impressed. The best comparison I can come up with is the difference between the remixed 20th anniversary Layla (blah !) and the MOFI. We are talking night and day.

All I can say good people, is if you want a great sounding version of this classic and don't want to pay $50+ for a used MOFI, check out this import. I was absolutely floored.

Wow! Thanks! I'll try to find one of these, too! Love that band!

:D

Is there a different catalogue number or anything?

Ed,

Yeah, the UD1 is really awesome! The only MFSL title I ever found for cheaps ($7 supposedly cut out, but no saw marks or drills). What a great disc! The MFSL recording is not bright AT ALL. Almost sounds like a flat transfer to me.

Now, if I could only find a great sounding copy of Nuthin' Fancy. Then I'd be really happy!

The information I have on it is this:

I bought it from a seller on Ebay. They're username is Japancdheaven. The catalog # is MVCE19302. The opening bid was $18.88 or buy it now for $23.88. I was the only bidder so I got it for $18.88. Shipping was $4.88. Glad they took Paypal. It took almost 2 weeks to get it as it was shipped from Hong Kong, even though their company is based in Calif. It was well packed.

Another place I've seen this CD available is a seller on Gemm called Mundo. He has it listed at $24.15. I've done business with him in the past and he's great. He ships within a day or two from when he gets your order. Really good with answering emails. I should also mention that if you email him before you place the order he can tell you if the CD is in stock and if it is packaged in a jewelcase or mini LP sleeve.

Happy Listening ! ED
