HZ Saw The Calling performed on that NBC All-Star Olympic Salute thing while channel surfing. Didn't know who the hack they were but they sure sounded like a clone of Creed, who I only got to know watching VH-1.

A few years ago I started saying things like, "That's not music, it's just noise" and "These guys all sound alike". It was then that I knew I had crossed over. That's right I have become my father! Now with the exception of the local Classic Rock station, I never listen to the radio.

My music library is too big!!!!! I hardly ever listen to music on the radio, unless I go to the Bay Area, where they have a real nice public radio jazz station. Top ten today -will it be around in twenty years?

You can catch Greg Kihn weekday morning (5-10AM, too early for me) on classic rock station 98.5 KFOX if you care. His Santa's Radical Sabbatical played during Christmas season really cracked me up. It's not available on CD or any other formats though.

Everytime I read one of these lists, I am always more amazed at what I HAVEN'T heard, or at least don't recall as being "hits". I have no recollection of hearing 3 of the songs on that list on hit single radio in New York.

5. Can I Change My Mind..........Tyrone Davis
7. You Showed Me..................The Turtles
10. I'm Livin' In Shame.............Diana Ross & The Supremes

I often wonder if this is due to local AM top 40 stations (in NYC anyway) always issued their own top 40 lists.

The list for WABC-AM in New York for the same week was:

1. Crimson and Clover - Tommy James & the Shondells (Roulette) *6 weeks #1* 1
2. Everyday People - Sly & the Family Stone (Epic) 3
3. Build Me Up Buttercup - The Foundations (Uni) 2
4. This Magic Moment - Jay & the Americans (United Artists) 4
5. Traces - Classics IV featuring Dennis Yost (Imperial) 10
6. Proud Mary - Creedence Clearwater Revival (Fantasy) 6
7. Dizzy - Tommy Roe (ABC) 15
8. Games People Play - Joe South (Capitol) 9
9. You Showed Me - The Turtles (White Whale) 8
10. Touch Me - The Doors (Elektra)

I still don't recall "You Showed Me", it seem to have had a chart life of about 6 weeks in NY, and this was it's peak position. The Supremes song peaked on this local chart the next week at 9, it was bubbling under the top 10 for about 5 weeks. The Tyrone Davis tune is not on their charts at all (at least within several weeks of it's national appearance). Does anyone else ever see "mystery songs" on these lists?

On the new list, I don't know any of the songs.

So, the new list is the real mystery list to me! :D
