View Full Version : Internal speaker wire recommendations?

For those of us brave enough (and can afford a professional to correct the resulting screw up) I have actually rewired the internal wire of my Tangent speakers.

Currently I am running Kimber inside the speakers. Matches my Kimber speaker wire quite nicely, I must say! :D

Impressed to all heck by the Grover interconnects, I was wondering if anyone has rewired their speakers.

Right now I am looking at this:

Vampire SL-22 $9.95 ft
The SL-22 is 22 gauge, pure Silver premium internal hook up wire. It has 7/30 stranding, PE insulation and is available in red and white only

Any opinions?

My Wilson Watt/Puppy's are internal wired with Transparent Cable... no reason to change my TC MusicWave Ultra loudspeaker cables:

pure Silver
Very Cool!
I want some too. I put 12g tributaries for the inside to the woofers. It was like 24g tinned copper originally. I do think your idea will work just dandy!

Gary, I have wanted to do this for some time. Never been thrilled about opening up my speakers though :(

Thanks, Claus and Clay!

Transparent Cable is nice stuff but the interconnects did not work well in my system. Of course I can only afford the low end stuff.... :o

Clay, I presume you found a "vast improvement" with your modificaton? I know I certainly did!!!

My only concern is should I use the pure silver or a copper with silver combination? QED (I think) makes a nice copper / silver wire. And copper / silver was recently recommended to me by an audiophile store.

Hmmmm.....

Yea, it can be scary.

If you replace one wire at a time, you should be OK.

When you get to the tweeter - or any other driver, really - there is a possibility that you CAN damage the internal connection if you overheat the connection that's part of the driver. Use silver solder.

Best left for someone with a bit of soldering skills. But, boy, was it worth it for my 23 year old Tangents!!
