After listening to my Nat King Cole "Love Is The Thing" Vinyl , the new Classic Vinyl Zep & CSN , and m Vertigo Metallica Black,S&M, & Load Albums, I pulled out my Doors 13 Album and was very dissapointed with the sound of it . Are the DCC releases better?

I can't comment specifically on the 13 album; I've never heard it.

I also can't comment on any of the DCC Doors vinyl (I have all the gold CDs, though), so if you're strictly talking about vinyl, I can't help much with comparisons.

I will say it's possible to hunt down really nice first Elektra pressings of the original albums for much less money than a DCC would cost you right now, and those originals can be awesome. In the past month I've found and bought two gold-label originals of that first The Doors LP, each for under $10; one's near mint, one's VG+. And a buddy of mine found a very nice gold-label original Strange Days recently for $7. I'd suggest looking for those.

The gold-label Doors is superb, and laughably superior to the later red- and butterfly-label pressings I've tested it against. I would guess that 13 sounds something like those, but as always I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

The only thing that I've heard that can compete with the gold-label original of The Doors is the DCC gold CD. I'd love to be able to compare the vinyl version, but the DCC LP has eluded me thus far ...

I sure wish I still had my originals of the first two Doors albums, they were pretty clean and sounded great on even the ****** systems I had when I was in high school, but I still think the Dccs are better. Anybody seen MONOs of these?

I wish ... I got all excited in a local shop recently when I saw a Doors LP with the MONO legend on the front of the sleeve -- then pulled the record out, and it was stereo (and trashed).

That's the first time I've even seen a mono sleeve of a Doors album ...
