Hi Steve,

I was just reading through the booklet from the latest remastered Forever Changes CD by Love last night.

Your name is one of those in the "thanks to" list on the last page. Did you have anything directly or indirectly to do with that release? It's one of my favorites from the avalanche of recent CD remasters ... though I think I like the new analog Sundazed LP even more.

Thanks!

I know Steve worked on some of the bonus tracks, but was not involved in mastering any of the album.

I know he didn't master any of it, but to what does "worked on" refer? I guess that's the meat of my question. :)

Has anyone heard the Sundazed "Forever Changes" LP yet? A local store was sold out when I went to get one. I got the first "Love" album and thought it sounded good (not earth-shattering/lack of "breath of Life").

I've been listening to the Sundazed Forever Changes LP non-stop over the past couple of nights.

I have no original LP to compare it to (wish I did!!!); the only other version I have is the latest CD issue I asked about above.

It's certainly warmer than the CD and a bit "darker" (not as much high end). The music sounds more integrated too, somehow, like it's a band playing and not a bunch of guys in booths doing overdubs.

And you've got to hear the dynamics in "Alone Again Or" ... the chorus just LEAPS out of the speakers at you!

Overall I like the character and sonic flavor of the Sundazed LP better than the CD ... but that CD is KING in my car!!! Both are worth seeking out (the CD's booklet and bonus tracks are nice additions).

Thanks, Jeff! I'll definately check it out this weekend (if the dealer gets his order in).

I agree with Jeff, I am very impressed with the Sundazed Forever Chages Lp. I wish I had bought two copies.

Steve asked me to post, quote, part of M. Fremer's interview with
Bob Irwin about this vinyl reissue.

Apparently, production notes exist telling where to fade up tracks,
when to fade down, where to compress and where to apply EQ
to the master tapes for this lp during mastering, and these notes
were not referenced at all when the new cd was mastered.
Concequently, "Alone Again, Or" does not build up like a "Bolero" as it should.

Also, the fades of these songs on the new lp are supposedly
longer than on any other stereo issue, as Irwin referenced
the mono mix's running times.

I found the new cd undynamic, shrill, and was rather disappointed
with the presentation. My red label Elektra lp pressing beat it
hands down for dynamics . . . AND supposedly, that one was not
EQ'ued with the precision that the current Sundazed is.

Production notes or not, doesn't anyone ever listen to an original lp before remastering this stuff?

(besides Steve i mean)
