I always wondered. Acme is a real life company, right?

So which one was first? Looney Tunes' "Acme" or the real company?

Or, is it only a real company around here?

Acme was a chain of supermarkets out here in PA until the mid-90's. I think there are still some Acme supermarkets in NJ, but I don't know if they're the same company.

Not bad places to shop, but I could never find where they kept those Batman Outfits!
;)

Nice Freakazoid, BTW. :righton:

It's a funny-looking guy, the Freakazoid :D

Reechie, around here, there was an Acme corporation that used to build stuff like pencil sharpeners. I think it's name was Acme-Dahle.

I'll try to find more info about it. I think I might still own one of their sharpeners (the complete casing is made out of metal - as it should be, of course!).

Every watch Tiny Toons? There was a Citizen Kane spoof where "Acme" was the famous uttered word, not "Rosebud." That whole episode must have had a 100 different Acme related products.

There were plenty of real companies with "Acme" in their name long before the first Road Runner cartoon. They often chose the name because it would be among the first people saw in the phone book.

One story I read was that all of the photographic equipment at the WB animation department was manufactured by a company named Acme, and the Termite Terrace folks decided to adapt the name as a kind of tribute.
