LPs on the shelf, does leaning cause any problems.

For abouta year now I've been using pot holders and placing my lps on them so they stay up straight when they're on my shelf. This works fine but it spaces the lps out cause them to take up LOTS of shelf space. Today I took all my albums off the holders and just placed them on the shelf. They take up far less space but they tend to lean towards one way or the other. Will this cause any damage to my albums?

Depends on how sturdy the covers are but, as a rule, you don't want your Lp's too loose on a shelf, nor too tight--the former can risk mild warpage to the vinyl and cover, while the latter's a one-way ticket to the dreaded ring wear. Best thing is slightly loose so you can easily pull what you want, but not so loose they keep sliding around. And if you have too much shelf space and not enough Lp's, find a piece of cardboard you can stick after the last Lp, and find a few heavy books or paperweight of some kind.

I had the same problem and I got some boxes the records are shipped in.Some are packed loosely on the shelf and they function as bookends.It's not real pretty but it solved the problem.
