I haven't really found anything that doesn't resemble the same lousy music programming on FCC radio.
The only bright spot I have come across recently is a frequency dedicated to 60s surf and car music. I heard stuff I had NEVER heard before! Unfortunately, I couldn't copy it because I don't have a high-speed connection yet, so I got breaks in the streaming.
I'd recommend www.netoldies.com for anybody who loves music from the 50s and 60s. Bill Blue has a impressive archive of songs, with a "soft spot" in his heart for STEREO!!! Some really obscure stuff/album tracks too!
Subtle bit of advice...If you use a 56K dialup modem, select 22k (or such) for playback...to avoid constant buffering problems.
If this era is your "cup-of-tea", you will really like this site.

If you loooook generally at the WInamp broadcast page (shoutcast.com) there are enough active live and pre-recorded stations to feed a nation of streaming-hungry listeners, dialup or other. And I didn't even say anything about Real Audio streamers (now becoming the minority because the software is detestable with ad-oriented annoyances). More to go around than there are forks!

A question for the gearheads. How do you go about copying music off of a net radio station? Thanks for the net oldies info. Yea Sckott "Real Audio = Nagware"
Well... I had a shoutcast server up running on cable modem a few months ago. Even at 128kbps it makes my DCC collection sound like Rhino CDs.
Actually... I can only fit 2 or 3 people on it without skipping. But if anyone wants to check it out, download winamp, hit alt-l, and type: 204.210.242.182:8000
Or search for the word "fidelity" on the shoutcast web page.
Sorry I don't have the best of music rotations up on it right now, but Its beddy bye for bozo time.
Yeah! Larry, if you listen to NetOldies for a little while, you will get hooked! I couldn't believe the stuff on that site. At first, I just listened because "netizens" were pickin' all my FAVES anyway! Check out "Last 15 Songs Played"...you'll kick yourself for missing out on something that "just" played before you logged on! After you listen for awhile...go ahead and play Mr. DJ and request some songs to play...hopefully it will be at a slow time...and your request will go right thru. Otherwise, there may be 86 requests in queue...ahead of yours.
The good thing is...something you haven't heard in years is bound to come on shortly! Good LINKS page too!!!
I was "hooked" on that site for a while...now I mostly check out Steve's cool site...and forget to log on anywhere else!

I have to agree with Pat and Steve...
I just can't stand the way music sounds coming out of my crappy computer speakers...
I'm vacuum tube spoiled I guess.
