No, not another SHM-CD debate thread, just some info for the curious.

There is not one but three separate SHM-CDs for Aja. I have bought them all, but one is still to arrive.

UICY-93520 comes in the cardboard LP-style artwork.

UICY-90764 comes in a jewel case and slipcase.

UICY-91430 I have yet to receive.

As we have seen so far, some SHM-CD titles contain the original mastering, some contain the more recent remaster. My hope is that one of these would turn out to be Steve's mastering.

    Steve's mastering is 39:57.

UICY-93520 clocks in at 40:02 and I assume is the '99 remaster.

UICY-90764 clocks in at 40:02 and I assume is the '99 remaster.

Remains to be seen what UICY-91430 is. I will report back when I get it.

I like the SHM-CD format, but given its "limited edition" status, yes, I'm a little disappointed that it seems the policy will be to reprint popular titles that sell out in a slightly different packaging. As a collector, I would like it if my ltd. ed. CD is actually ltd. ed. mastering, but maybe I'm splitting hairs. Still, I think this format has been a biger hit than they expected so they are re-issuing "ltd. edition" titles in slightly different packaging so they can sell more.

oops, one more thing, be careful where you buy your SHM-CDs, there are fakes out there, I've seen them. CDJapan is a reliable source with good prices. If the seller is located in the former Soviet Union, or former Eastern Bloc country-- beware!!!

I would think you have Buckley's chance of getting a new SHM-CD that uses Steve's mastering. But good luck anyway!

I seriously doubt they'd use anything but the latest remaster for these. As far as I know, pretty much all SHM CDs are more or less just using whatever the latest and "greatest" masterings out there. There are a few exceptions, like the newest Who deluxe editions from Japan, but for the most part they're just using SHM as an excuse to re-sell everyone the same masterings over again.

  5. Aww man, don't tell me that. I just bought the SHM-CD "There's A Riot Goin' On" off of ebay from a guy in Australia, "Themusicspecialist". He has a perfect rating, and he's nowhere near new. Anyone used him before? Shoulda checked here first...

Australia's part of the former Soviet Union or Eastern Bloc? You should be fine.

  7. It isn't?

I guess I was implying anywhere other than Japan, but it didn't come out that way did it? My bad, no disrespect to "Down Under" my friend.

I've been tardy in updating this one, sorry.

OK, the last and final Aja is in, UICY-91430, and, drum roll please............................................

D'oh! :realmad: It's the exact same late 90's rmaster as all the rest.

OK, so, to summarize; so far all Aja SHM-CDs are the same old remaster we have here in the states. They do differ in terms of packaging.

Most elaborate LP-style packaging is the UICY-93520. Personally I HATE LP-Style packaging, YMMV.

UICY-90764 comes in a jewel case and slipcase. To me, this is the most superior and collectable packaging. It's iin a jewel case (yay!) and has a slipcase and a special booklet describing the wonders of SHM-CD.

UICY-91430, is identical to UICY-90764, but without extra booklet and slip case.

    The End.
