My good friend Jeff Joseph of SabuCat Productions (the World's largest movie trailer archive) is organizing a ONCE IN A LIFETIME World 3-D Film Expo.

Friends, this is really a one-time event, never to be repeated. Years in the making, there are 3-D films, cartoons and shorts here that have not been seen in 3-D since the early 1950's. Also, some of these have NEVER been shown in true 3-D. Many of these collector prints don't even exist in studio vaults in printable condition. This will be your only chance in our lifetime to see these amazing films in true double interlock 3-D! Ever see a 3-D cartoon? Awesome? Remember that Three Stooges 3-D short? It's here with many, many wonderful surprises. I can't wait to see "Gog" (used to scare me as a kid) in 3-D. Also, did you know that there was a Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis movie shot in 3-D? It's on the bill. Also, my favorite cheesy Sci-Fi film "Cat Women On The Moon" with Sonny Tufts will be shown, along with your favorite 3-D thrillers "Dial M For Murder" and "House Of Wax"!

I strongly recommend going to this at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Many are flying in from around the World to see this; it's that awesome.'

I'll be there, that's for sure:

I wish I could make it out there, I love those old 3-D flicks. A couple of years ago, the local art house theater showed a Sunday double bill of It Came From Outer Space and Creature From The Black Lagoon with a break for Duck Dodgers in between. Lots of fun, hope you enjoy yourself.

I'm not familiar with Gog but Cat-Women Of The Moon is one of my favorites, and Robot Monster too. It's almost like the Wade Williams collection on the big screen. I'm going to have to try to get to some of these.

In 3-D for the first and only time! It's amazingly real looking; great depth!

Hey, ever heard of Expedia? I live in New York City, but there's NO WAY I'm passing this up. I've already reserved room at the Roosevelt Hotel.

During the World 3-D Expo, a brand spankin' new three-strip Cinerama print of How the West Was Won is going to be shown at the Cinerama Dome.

If anyone else is going to the World 3-D Expo, feel free to e-mail be privately. Perhaps we could grill Steve about all things audiophile in between screenings.

One of the many, many perks of living in the LA area. Enjoy Steve!

It's too depressing to even contemplate....wish they'd do this sort of thing in NYC....at least that's within driving distance, and I have friends there!:(

Any chance of convincing them to take this show on the road? Love to see it come to NYC!

We've been to several 3-D screenings at the Film Forum in Manhattan over the years, including a double feature of Cat Women and Robot Monster. Always a blast!

Normally I'd never go near the upcoming Spy Kids 3D but I gotta see what the latest 3D effects are like! Plus, casting Stallone as the heavy seems an inspired choice...

I was quite stoked to see this one until I found out that it was only partially in 3-D (during game play, I believe) and that it was anaglyph (red/blue) not polarized. Dunno if I'll bother now.

I'd love to go, but it's just not in the stars!

THere's a lot of great 3-D Imax being made today, check your local theaters!

Sounds like fun ... I remember seeing "House of Wax" in 3-D as a kid at the Majestic in downtown Dallas when it first came out ... so, Steve, did you get a Festival Pass?

Good question. I hope so. :)

During the 3-D heyday of the 50's, Viewmaster issued promotional reels of several stereographic (I prefer the term stereographic over 3-D) movies. These reels were distributed to theaters for patrons to preview the film in "3-D" using a special lighted viewer in the loby.

I'm not sure if they were used Ecktachrome slides or not for these reels.

Any chance that's going on the road? Chicago maybe? The Music Box would be a very agreable theater.

Never. These are mainly collectors prints. This is a once in a lifetime thing. Never to be repeated!

I am going to see "Spy Kids 3-D" but I don't think it will be as good as it could have been, being non-polarized. But I suppose that the movie being shot on digital video would make it necessary to use anaglyph, wouldn't it?

Pinknik
07-23-2003, 05:05 PM
No. I imagine it was probably a two camera rig, even if it was digital video. Which means two color images that could have been projected in an over/under polarized format. I think the main reason they went with anaglyph, is because the 3-D is only used during a certain section(s) of the film, instead of the entire duration.

Pinknik

That, and it's probably cheaper.

That, and it's probably cheaper. True. But I'm glad that the whole cast/crew gave their all on these three films to do something that was original and fun. I will miss the "Spy Kids" movies, although Alexa Vega has suggested maybe it could be like the Bond films, if they ever do make number 4, and introduce new characters, or new actors playing Carmen and Juni. Oh, and to everyone who gets to go to it, have fun at the 3-D FilmFest! I wish I could be there, too, but I live too far away to attend. However, I know we'll get a full report on these boards!

I've just spent an enjoyable hour, watching the trailers for some of the 3-D movies to be shown at the upcoming festival. They weren't in 3-D on my computer screen, but they sure were fun to watch. Some obviously in true Technicolor.

Go here:

And click on the trailer for each movie. I've never seen many of these films, but the trailers are GREAT!

Hope you all can come to the once in a lifetime 3-D Festival at the Egyptian in Hollywood!

Ah, they've finally got these up! Cool. Don't forget to order the DVD Steve.

I'll be there at least a few nights. A buddy of mine from Chicago may actually fly out for this.
