The first album from Head East.
Played this one over and over and over a few more times since '75.
The A&M CD is too thin sounding for me.
Need this one Hoffmanized.
A great example of just some good ol' midwestern Rock N' Roll of the 70's.
How about it Steve?

God, I haven't heard that album since I was in college radio. There was one song I really liked on there. Can't remember the name of it though...:)

Was it "Never Been Any Reason"?
That one got the most airplay. The whole album's great though.

I agree. One of my absolute favorites from the good times back in the '70's.....really brings back the memories!

I have an extra copy of "Flat As A Pancake", you're interested. It's an original Canadian A&M LP in excellent condition.

One of my father's favorite albums. He'd play it all the time while I was growing up. Never Been any reason is one of the great tracks from the 70's.
Sounds like a future S&P release (he said hopefully....)

Yikes, I saw them open for Foghat at Cobo Hall in Detroit... probably 1976, I would guess.

I saw them open for Johnny Winter that same year.
A little OT, but is that a young Howard Cosell as your avatar Chris? Apologies if you've been asked that in other threads.

:D Nope... but close! That's the late French singer Serge Gainsbourg.
Actually... not close at all!
(I can imagine how silly this exchange will appear when I change my avatar next time!)
Cheers,
Chris

They had a song in the movie Dazed and Confused.
Which song was it?

Ahhhh. I see, thanks for the reply. It was the cigar that made me think Howard.

Headeast was a great Midwest band. I saw them back in 1975, they were the opening act for Wishbone Ash & Aerosmith . Wishbone Ash was actually the headliner as Aerosmith at the time was not near as popular as today. Aeromsith was touring to promote the "Get Your Wings" album. It was the next Aeosmith album that put their name on the map with "Toys In The Attic". Anyway Headeast did about a 30 minute set which was outstanding. The Flast As A Pancake was a great album although I never cared much for any of the other material that they out out .

The original A&M vinyl isn't too bad. Wore out my original from '75 completely. Used copies and even occasional sealed ones are easy to find luckily.
Doesn't Universal own the rights to this now?
If so, I wouldn't think that it would be THAT difficult or expensive to license for possibly SACD release.
They were a hell of a great live band in their prime.

John,
"Flat As A Pancake" was recorded at the former Golden Voice Studio in South Pekin, IL. I had the good fortune of visiting this studio on a number of occasions. The Studio was own by a guy of the name of Jerry Milam. He started the studio in about 1964 or so and he had some great vintage equipment in there. Jerry and my Dad had worked together in Radio. Jerry was a real engineer and he recorded some very interesting acts over the years. Sadly, the Studio burned down many years ago under rather nefarious, unexplained circumstances....
