Michael Fremer of Stereophile posted this on Phonogram. I guess he likes Steve's new Creedence LP's!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
From: Michael Fremer/Stereophile
Mikey sez:
I've just listened to the first two CCR test pressings mastered by Kevin
Gray and Steve Hoffman at AcousTech mastering (at RTI) and let me tell you:
when the bass kicked in on "I Put a Spell on You" I thought I was playing a
45 at 33 1/3 it was so deep and THICK but it was 33 1/3 and when the guitars
kicked in, it was WOWIE!!!!!!!!!!!! The transparency, transient SNAP and
overall clarity without brightness or edge is phenomenal! This is as close
to listening to a master tape as I've heard from vinyl--not hyperbole. Based
on this, I think Kevin and I guess Steve have put together the best sounding
lathe/cutting set-up I've heard yet--better than what they were using at
Future Disc for the DCC cuts and without the hum--and those were gooood of
course.....the top end is just right--dynamics, depth, detail, the whole
ball of waxxxxxxxxxx. I was cautiously optimistic having heard how great the
Ella/Gershwin box cut there came out, but I was not prepared for THIS.....
congrats to all, and now back to the other LPs........

Anyone know anything about what these will cost ?? It'll bum me out if I can't afford to get 'em all ...
Hey Jeff,
Talk about a bummer. As he waits patiently for any sign of a cd release of the long desired CCR completion.:(

Alright everyone, fess up who you are. How many of you that already own the DCC LP version of "Willy And The Poor Boys" will shell out $30 for this latest version?
I just want to see how obsessed you all are (me too)! :D

Unless I win the lottery some time soon, I won't buy a second audiophile Willy LP -- the DCC is already among the very best-sounding LPs I have -- but I'm going to check out at least one or two of the others (definitely Green River, and either Cosmo's or Bayou, can't decide).
So are they going to be $30??

I wonder will there be a box with all the albums as well as the individual releases. Steve, do you have any more word on how Chad is going to release this? Also, I think you mentioned something about each album including a 45?
Todd
Last time I checked the Acoustic Sounds catalog, the new vinyl will have a $20 list price. We better wait 'till they are released to find the real price.

20 Bucks!!! That should make a lot of us freaks happy. Geez, they ought to give a bulk discount to the good folks who buy the same album on 3 formats, 3 copies of each. My proposal is if they can't cut the royalties, then cut out Saul Zaents (sp?) take for cryin' out loud!! Give it all to John & the band.
I know Steve probably can't comment on this one. But it's not all bad. I like (actually, love) what Fantasy has done for the fan of modern jazz by making available some of the greatest titles to be reworked properly to vinyl or CD. And they keep some pretty obscure titles in circulation that would never have surfaced if held by the majors (like The Jaki Byard Experience). I love/hate OJC!

They won't be $20, that I can assure you. They may be $25, which is a good price. Or they may be $30, which is affordable.
I would expect the $25 price so that Chad can sell them by the thousands. Now we just need to see if all you guys out there will step up to the plate and show Chad the market is still there for vinyl.

Oh, I'll definitely step up to the plate... I wanna full set! Especially the first album - finally! :D

We are not talking about any 180 gram that Tom won't sell to his worst enemy here!
Step up to the plate then what? Get a walk or hit a cheap single? I'm ready to one up Mike Hobson's motto and park it.
$20 List price correction.
According to Fremer in the March Stereophile, Chad has obtained the metal parts for some OJC Jazz titles and will be pressing them at RTI on 180g (no new remastering a la Scorpio). These will probably be $20 (twice the Fantasy price for 180g). The Hoffman remastered CCR LPs is a different story (probably $30).

Ah well ... I guess deep down I always knew they'd end up being $30. It's a bummer 'cause it means I'll probably end up getting two instead of three of 'em.
It never gets any easier for me to shell out that much money for a single record album ... If Sundazed charged that much, I don't know what I'd do about the Dylan reissues (I've loved 'em so far, and look forward to continuing to get them all).

OK, lets see now, $30, that's US funds, right? That would be, for me umm, about $55 Canadian including shipping?
Because of my idiotic country and government, I can buy almost four of the JVC remastered Creedence CD's for that price. This is kinda discouraging me from taking part. Can the LP's be that much better? I suppose there will be other Canadians in the sasme boat as me. I envy you Americans.

I won't replace "Will and the Poor Boys" unless they release a box set of all,the I'll just pull the credit card out..... and you know the rest...!

I think it would be a great idea for them to release the complete set of albums in a nice box. I hope if they do this they release it the same time as the individual albums. I hate it when companies sneak out nice collection boxes a few months later without any word in advance. Give us a choice...
