After rearranging some things I found my set of technical papers from Klipsch. This is a cutaway view of a Klipschorn - that's where yer money is going towards - very complex cabinetry. Folks who bought knockoffs like Speakerlab's attempt DIDN'T get a K-Horn, that's for sure... Paul "Bulls**t" Klipsch did it right... Picture is from the article "Eight Cardinal Points in Loudspeakers for Sound Reprodcution;" IRE Transactions on Audio, November/December 1961; Paul Klipsch - author...

It's hard to believe that goofy looking this reproduces music but it does.

Lends credence to the song:

"The music goes 'round and 'round and it comes out here".

Klipsch's website says it (and the La scala!) use a 15" woofer in there.

Is that true, because it's hard to tell from the picture.

JBL seems to like the Klipschorn too (well, at least 2/3's of it :)):

JBL "K2" (http://jbl.com/home/products/product_detail.asp?ProdId=K2S9800DG&SerId=K2&sCatId=)

Yikes, $12,500 each! Anybody heard these things?

You're looking at a side view cutaway.

Tommy Dorsey and his Clambake Seven! How did you know about that song anyway?

Nevermind! Wrong thread!

Inspires me to start a thread.... later today, when I get home!

Mr Tannoy, AKA Guy R Fountain, knew a little bit about folding wood too!

For the historians here:

Did this (http://www.audioheritage.org/html/profiles/jbl/hartsfield.htm) JBL cause any resentment/amusement/disbelief among Klipsch owners when it was introduced?

(Yep, I like JBL, but I liked them more before they were acquired by The Harmon Group. :()

Dunno - the K-Horn is still around and in production. PK inspired a lotta others to give it a try - almost all were flops (and Klipsch wasn't using cheap drivers - he sourced drivers from Western Electric, Stephens, University and EV before developing some on their own). Haven't heard the Hartsfield, but it looks like a monster!
