Now that EMI is in financial trouble, maybe this is an incentive for them to release Beatles remasters. I feel that the dam is going to break some day, and it is going to happen in our lifetimes. I fear these remasters might be no-noised or screwed up in some other way, though.

The hits album, 1, was a sonic disaster, so, unless they're coming out on SACD, count me out.

Once you've heard SACD, you can't go back!
Apple had better consider making hybrid SACDs so both SACD owners and regular CD owners can enjoy them.
Yes, I agree that "1" was a sonic disaster. Problem is, the people who want remixing ala "Songtrack" and no-noise ala "1" vs "we who don't want any hokery-pokery" is split about evenly. What are they gonna do?
For my money they had better keep Peter Mew and Jon Astley away from the tapes!

SACD Beatles would get me on that bandwagon real fast!

By no means am I SACD bashing here. I've never heard the format. But, are you implying that all SACD releases will sound fabulous and be free from remastering screwups, like the majority of the lame remaster attempts of the past decade? Personally, I don't think it's the format that is holding the CD back from reaching its potential.

Of course not. Bad mastering is bad mastering. It will sound even WORSE on an SACD.

Absolutely not. In fact I'd have to say that even if the Beatles were to be remastered (from the best analog sources) to SACD, I would be a little anxious about them. I'd have to hear them before I would commit any hard-earned dollars to my own copies.
You are probably correct, too -- if I infer that it is the original tapes you find lacking in quality -- that there really isn't enough there, consequently, to warrant remastering them to SACD (or the much lesser DVD-A for that matter) and the inherent deficiencies of PCM are probably and really a blessing in disguise.
But many of us who have bought SACD players aren't content with the strictly junior-varsity stuff that's been showing up from the audiophile labels (Rebecca Pidgeon, Jacintha and, soon, (ugh) Patrica Barber), so if we look at things optimistically, there might be some real potential in the artists of the past -- perhaps even the Beatles. Imagine if you will what a properly remastered Tea For The Tillermanmight sound like on SACD, compared to that Ted Jensen abomination that appeared a year or so ago. Now that would be an SACD remaster worth pursuing.
