What is the most listened cd or lp in your collection.i had to stop and think the other day out of my vast collection of recordings which i ever listened to the most ever and i came down to three recordings:

1.The Beatles-The Beatles(White Album)
2.Rolling Stones-Exile on Main Street
3.The Who-Who's Next.

I like all the releases a lot but probably the Beatles white album I have played more times than any of the three listed,it always amazed me at the variety of tunes on this 2lp set.i never get tired of playing it.

How about yours-what are your favorites?

A somewhat similar question was asked on the ICE forum a couple of weeks ago and the limit was two-dozen. Hardly any of us could keep our lists below 40, save one!

Crowded House - Temple Of Low Men

I've never gotten tired of listening to that album, and I've listened to it a lot.

Now, there are many albums I've thought of as "my alltime fav" over the years, but eventually gotten tired of them, and only pull them out on rare occasion now:

Rush - Permanent Waves
Rush - Moving Pictures
Led Zep - Houses of the Holy
The Beatles - Abbey Road
The Beatles - Sgt. Peppers

But I've never gotten tired of Temple. Dunno why...

What kind of material is on this disc? I have three discs of his: Baroque pieces, Paganini's caprices, and Vivaldi. I like all of them, but the Paganini can be a bit much.

This is the reissue of the original Mark Levinson recording from the mid-Seventies on his new Red Rose label. It features the Bach and Scarlatti transcriptions that were on the original LP, plus a bonus of the Bach Lute Suite in G recorded during the same session, but for which there wasn't enough room on the LP.

If you are familiar with this recording, then you will be both pleased and dismayed with this new reissue. While the sound quality is top-notch, the microphone placement having been too wide during the sessions is now even more evident.

This has always been one of my two favorite classical guitar albums (the other is Bream's Romantic Guitar from the mid-sixties.

Marvin Gaye's What's Going On.

Besides being my all-time favorite, it fits a lot of different moods, it is the pinnacle of soul, it is at the same time both socially conscious and groove music, it works both as background music and serious listening music, my wife and kids tolerate it, it has the greatest bass-playing ever (courtesy of James Jamerson), it sounds fantastic (especially the most recent Deluxe Edition), it renews me every time I listen to it, and it does everything it needs to do in under forty minutes. My definition of perfection.

There are probably a zillion other reasons, but those are mine in thirty seconds or less.

The one I revisit the most often has to be:

John Coltrane - A Love Supreme

A little more obscure, but wonderful jazz title I picked up on reel-to-reel as a lark (great transfer by Bel Canto!).

Benny Golson - Free (oh man, pick up this one!!!!)

And lately I've been playing a lot of Captain Beefheart. I don't know, but I even like his forays into the Stax-style grooves on Clear Spot. But as for the one I play the most, that would be Safe As Milk.

As a teenager, I played Abbey Road about 1000 times, repeat on the BSR. I'm lucky my brother didn't kill me :D

On CD, I keep coming back to Eva Cassidy. "Songbird" and "Live from Blues Alley". I recently found her first album where she sings with Chuck Brown - fantastic. Diana Krall gets a lot of air time too, especially her first album "Stepping Out". I just love "Straighten Up and Fly Right".

On SACD, the first Blood, Sweat and Tears and Miles Davis "In A Silent Way" (JSACD).

On DCC, "Court and Spark" and "Elvis 24k Hits".

On MFSL, "Crime of the Century". Bloody well right!

Hey sgb: I have that Mark Levinson LP. Wonderful sound. I'm tempted to get the SACD now that you mention it; the extra track sounds intriguing.

Metralla

Wow,

This is a tough one.

I probably listen to Jethro Tull, Rush, and Hawkwind the most of any artist, but not one particular album.

The albums that I have probably heard the most in my life would be:

Iron Maiden "Piece of Mind"
AC/DC "Back in Black"
U2 "The Joshua Tree"
CCR "Chronicles"
Steve Miller Band "Book of Dreams"
Metallica "Ride the Lightning"
Styx "Pieces of Eight"
Pink Floyd "The Wall"
Ozzy Osbourne "Diary of a Madman"

I haven't heard most of these much in the last few years, though.

My recent (last ten years or so) favorites would be:

Robbie Robertson "Storyville"
Roger Waters "Amused to Death"
Charlie Rich "Pictures and Paintings"
Maria McKee "Maria McKee"
James Taylor "New Moon Shine"
John Kilzer "Busman's Holiday"
Jethro Tull "Heavy Horses"
Renaissance "Scheherazade and other stories"

I guess I will stop there.

Tony

Yeah, you could say that...

I listened to almost all hard rock/metal until I bought Rush "Signals" and "Grace Under Pressure". I really liked these and from there I went on to everything from Tool to Dwight Yoakam to Nat "King" Cole.

I remember one day I was buying three CDs at my local store. The checkout girl made a comment about me buying Patsy Cline, Jethro Tull, and Metallica at the same time. It had never crossed my mind.

Thank God I bought those Rush LPs!!;)

Well, this changes from time to time but I think I can narrow it down to three that I've been listening to quite a bit over the past few months.

1. John Mayall-The Turning Point-This got reissued last Oct and sounds so much better than it's previous issue. I hadn't listened to it for some time and have been reminded recently why this album is one of John's best. Room To Move rocks !

2. Tina Brooks-The Waiting Game-Most peoples favorite sax players usually switch between Charlie Parker and John Coltrane. While I am a HUGE fan of those 2 gentlemen, the rarely recorded Tina Brooks just floors me. In his brief recording career he recorded 4 sessions for Blue Note in the early 60's. They have been released as "Minor Move" "True Blue" "Back To The Tracks" & the recently issued only in Japan "The Waiting Game". The man could play (and write !). If you're a classic jazz buff and haven't heard him-check him out !

3. Stevie Salas-Shapeshifter-Stevie's 2001 release that continues to reinforce why he the funkiest living guitar player hands down. Now if he could only get a U.S. record deal and save me some money on Japanese import prices (even though he's worth it !)

Best - ED
