Although Love Is The Thing(LP) is the best quality recording I've ever heard (aside from the White album on reel to reel) there is a periodic thumping sound throughout side 1. Can anybody explain this?

It's not thumping. It's Nat's breath on the microphone.

Hey martinimaster,

I think your subwoofer is up too loud or something. You should notice it, but it shouldn't be too overwhelming! After all, they didn't even notice it at Capitol when they were recording this album back in 1956...;)

Steve,

Nat's "Love is the Thing" is one of my favorite albums of all time thanks to the GREAT remastering job you did on it.

Nat is so life like... I swear he's in the room!

Totally amazing!!

Thanks for so many great albums but especially for this one! :)

I doubt that my sub is too high got the same effect when Mark Levinson demoed his new cartridge with his red rose classic model speakers. It could just be my volume level when Nat's on, his voice and presence fill the room. Thanks, Steve, for the best record I own. Look forward to more. martini

Can anyone say "Nat King Cole Sings, George Shearing Plays"?

I have the original Capitol rainbow stereo copy with the sampler disc. You know, garage sales circa '91 were the very best things! I found a handful of goodies like this for nothing back then. And, of course, finding this LP introduced me (quite properly, I think) to Nat's artistry. What a wonderful set.

I got 3 copies of this lovely classic LP. 2 of them had the same case. But I had a little bit surprise that one of the early pressing could not hear the breathe from Nat.....??

Was listening to this album when I came across this thread. If I've heard a better sounding album it must be a DCC. If you do more Nat may I suggest my all time favorite Christmas album. The Christmas Song.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

DCC's Nat "King" Cole, "Love is the Thing" is one of my all time favorite albums. I have both the LP and the gold CD versions.

I also have the other DCC Nat "King" Cole, albums... Which, BTW I highly recommend. "The Very Thought Of You" and "Greatest Hits". If you haven't already checked it out,"The Very Thought of You" would be my top pick of the three.

All excellent shows of Nat's wonderful songmanship and of Steve's excellence behind the console! You can never have too much "Hoffmanized" Nat "King" Cole!! That would go for any more Bing Crosby you can give us too.

Steve, anything more you can give us on either of the two would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for what you've given us so far!

For years, I've been asking Steve to remaster the definitive edition of "Hey Jude/Hey Bing!" A classic!
