OK. I was a kid when this show was first on, but I have fond memories of watching 'Soap.' It's true that a lot of the sexual humour went over my head, but I loved the cliff-hanger endings of every episode and a lot of the wacky scenarios.

Who could forget Chuck and Bob? And how about when Burt was abducted by aliens and Alien Burt took his place. Sure it was far-fetched, insane, and completely over the top, but I loved it.

I've caught it a few times recently on TV-Land, and I must say, the picture quality is horrible. It's all washed out and looks really, really bad.
This is one of those rare series that I would purchase on DVD, but I wonder if since this series was videotaped, if there are any decent sources for this material.

Would anyone else like to see this series on DVD?? And does anyone have any interesting tidbits or information about this series?
Thanks!!

Check this out, if you have not already...
From the Digital Bits...
Columbia TriStar's got some new titles to announce too. On 8/14, look for Soap: The Complete First Season.

I loved that series, it really gre on you.

However, it might be one of those things you have to experience in "real time", you know, since it is so long you can't just sit and watch it, as it has a time line and must be followed in order.

That's a lot of time to commit to watching a video.

But, when it was on ABC originally, it was not to be missed!

I'm happy to hear this is coming out on dvd. I'm not sure that I'll buy it, though, or just rent the discs after my local video store gets it. Unfortunately TV Land really hasn't done this show right. I haven't really noticed a picture quality problem (perhaps because nothing delivered by my digital cable box looks very good), but they seem to show the same few episodes over and over on Friday nights. One would think that they would have started from episode one and worked forward, but for some reason that seems inexplicable to me they haven't done that.

This truly was a wacky -- and fun -- show. Katherine Helmond (sp?) is absolutely wonderful as Jessica and is reason enough to watch Soap.

I love this show! Glad to hear that DVDs are planned.

I was pretty young when it aired originally, but I saw it in syndication when I was in high school and loved it right away. It was on in the late mornings in our market for some weird reason, right before the real soaps. I got to see it when school let out for summer.

I caught it for the first time in 1995, when Comedy Central began airing it with an all-New Year's Weekend marathon. I was hooked. I watched almost the whole thing. What a great show!

Voicebug, I remember the video quality being much better on Comedy Central than it is on TV Land, but that might be because TV Land looks like **** on my local Comcast service. This might have to do with the fact that it's offered only as a digital cable channel.

And now I have the theme stuck in my head. Thanks a lot, Voicebug! :D

Great show. I remember watching it with my father when CC started airing it. He had been a big fan of it when it originally aired.

I liked the first season, but as the show went on, it became somewhat of a "toothless tiger" to me... too diluted by the network and the sponsors.

What I'd really like to see out on disc is "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman"... :)
